V8 rev counter not working and occasional battery light

I searched the forum and found this can be caused by a bad connection on the alternator. So I checked all the connections on the alternator, cleaned and no change. Checked the connections on the coil, they are OK.

Then I found the problem. Yesterday when replacing the fan belt tensioner I put the belt back on wrong :frusty:

Will I have done any damage running the alternator in reverse?

I also bought the wrong fan belt, the [FONT=&quot]ERR4461 is to long, so I had to put the old one back on. [/FONT]

ERR5579 is the part no. u require then.
Damage? Put a volt meter across the battery and test.

FFS, I ordered an [FONT=&quot]ERR6191. I'm going to have a good selection of belts by the time I'm done.[/FONT]

Because u haven't stated you engine I have to assume it's a 3.9 with a/c, that is the only one I know, so ERR5579 is the correct one, ERR6191 is non-a/c.

Unlikely to have caused damage, there is only 1 rotating part.

Tbh it may even have made voltage in the other direction if the regulator was smart.

Just get the belt fitted and try it.

They way the alternator works is 3 phase with an alternating current so it shouldn't make a blind bit of difference!
