D2 REMOTE NOT WORKING - CAN THE RF RECEIVER BE TESTED??

My D2 is not regularly used and after a couple of weeks of not having opened doors or started it the remote is not operating correctly. It will occasionally work and the doors will lock or unlock but only very occasionally – I have put new batteries in the key fobs. The vehicle battery is fully charged as I have it on a smart charger and have checked its charge state. I have read a number of posts about how to fix this issue and I have removed and checked the RF receiver which is not damaged or wet – is there any simple way to test this unit when disconnected from the car? I expect not but worth asking.

Also, the RF unit has a metal tag coming from it through which one of the securing bolts passes to screw it to the roof member, I assume this is how the unit is earthed but is that correct? Is this connection critical to making it work?

I have checked the multi-plug wiring connection between the unit and the BCM in the drivers foot well and that is not corroded and perfectly clean so I don't think that's the problem. I also checked the connections to the BCM and all seems fine.

Any suggestions very welcome and apologies for another remote post!

Don't aplogise!
I am very interested as mine works fine BUT after I walk away from the car, the alarm goes off! So for a ,long time now I have been locking the car with the key but opening it with the fob, to stop the alarm going off if I open it with the key.

But I am not sure if the motion detector and the de-immobiliser bits are one and the same thing in the roof. (Sorry for the lack of technical terms).
I have also been warned that doing what I do could end up with the lock no longer working, through "excess use".
so I will watch this thread with interest.

Motion detectors are separate to the RF unit.
You may have a faulty bonnet sensor, I also think you can just unplug the motion sensor to test them.
OP, if you have a Nanocom I believe you can test your RF unit works, have to plug it back in first though.

Thanks for this.
I never realised a bonnet sensor could do this. I'll have to dig around to find where it is and clean it, test it etc.
Ta again!

No there is not, you can test it only with diagnostics while it's on the vehicle but the only 100% certain way to rule it out is to replace it with new or confirmed working one

Yes, that earth is critical

That's because the bonnet sensor would not do this as long as locking with the key helps... the key disables the volumetric alarm so your problem is with one of the volumetric sensors which can suffer by water ingress/corrosion and trigger the alarm without reason... disregard the bonnet switch in this case it would make tricks no matter how you lock it and usually it triggers a misslock warning ... you can unplug those sensors or disable the volumetric alarm with nanocom or similar to be able to lock with the fob... that's what can happen but like with the RF receiver the fault can be invisible too

Thanks again mate. I did think it was soemthing to do with what you have just posted and I even seem to remember this pic you put up. I really must get on and find it.

You can use the vehicle with those unplugged without probs... it's the same effect like when you lock with the key but you can lock with the fob then
I really must do this, it's pure laziness and being used to using the key that is stopping me! Ta again, mate!
