I stripped mine of tonight to rub them down and repaint them. Mine were fixed on by pop rivets and also some threaded rivnuts. Trying to work out if the rivnuts are supposed to be there and if so, for what. Or they have been retro fitted for something else. Light cage perhaps, but the hole pattern didn't suggest that. Any ideas anyone? I intend to weld fill the holes before I refit.

Mine are just riveted, so I guess the rivnuts are an addition from a previous owner. Light cages is a good bet.

Just rivets on my 1990 - I removed the tub cappings and had them galvanised. Left them in galv, look good and give a salute to the Series Landy's.

Mines a 1996. Mine were riveted on. Galv ones now and riveted on again. Were the rivnuts on both side?
Yes. I reckon they were about an M6 thread. Mines is an 89.

I think they are for some addition that a previous owner has had installed. If they are in good condition why not leave them in place but put M6 screws in to them to fill the hole, wouldn't look amiss on a Landy and may save you potential hassle with the cappings warping if you try to fill them with weld.
I had to drill them out as they were acting as another kind of rivet. It would appear they were fitted in the same place as some of the original pop rivets so if it was light cages, they would have to have matched up with the pop rivet pattern. Might have been home made, who knows. One of life's mysteries..
