Hi to all

i have a disco 2 and a 17 ft ifor williams trailer (with ramps, winch, removable cages, and removable sides etc.)

i live near southend in essex

i was wondering if there was any work that i could do with it around here or from here to anywhere in the uk or europe, running people to and from off road days and other transport of vehicles.

i have allot of experience in towing trailers, boats, caravans etc.

what insurance do you have ?

comprehensive insurance for private vehicle

what insurance would i need for covering someone elses goods or vehicle?

would think you would need a commercial insurance policy above the value of what you carry specially in europe and possibly public liability as well ,go and talk to a good broker or ratty might help as he does recovery work and carries peoples vehicles around

Do you have a tachograph?

without a tacho you will be restricted to very short journeys (60 miles i think) in the local area.. and without the right insurance you will struggle to get any work..

it really is not worth alll the hassel, insurance and tacho's is it.

a better option to use your trailer to make a few quid might be to look into insuring it and then hiring it out.. self tow style.. still gonna need insurance but only in case someone leaves it with the brakes off and it rolls down a hill taking out a bmw X5 on the way down (for example)...

The best way to make money out of your trailer while staying within the bounds of the tacho is by weighing in cars and scrap metal.

There's good reason why we have laws and regulations. It's to protect the public from any old tom, dick or harry setting out to make a few quid but in the meantime ruining some other poor ****er's life.

Sheesh...no idea what you paid for the 109..but bet it costs more to get it home!! 550 miles - £1100 + Vat .
Oh aye...and 2 overnights - another £200
