L322 tow hitch

I've been looking for a 2004-ish Disco, but seeing some L322's that look OK. I was ruling them out on the grounds of wheelbase and width, but now think I might just be able to get one through the gateposts.

I have the heavy, adjustable height pin and ball tow hitch with inbuilt steps that came with my first 110, and has been on the second 110 and the Disco1 since then.

I've never seen one of these on a RR, and the towing bits look a bit less butch than I'm used to. Would it be OK, robust enough and not foul anything like back door etc.?

Our boat is 3 tons on a 4 LR wheel trailer and I used to need the hitch when helping out fishermen with getting trailers within reach of cranes and so on. We are no longer parked near fishing boats, but I always liked this very adaptable hitch.

I've seen range rover ( or maybe it were disco 3) with land rover fitted hitches that have a Dixon and bate hitch picture crossed out on it. Paddocks list their Dixon bate hitches for a l322 so if guess you can get fittings for em.

OK, in the absence of any 2004-ish Disco's available locally, I'm still looking at FFRR's. One that I've seen that looked OK and was almost affordable had no towbar fitted. I've looked at Paddocks and also on ebay and it looks to me as if it might be possible to buy a complete kit off ebay for between £100 and £120.

Has anyone any experience of these cheap kits? Also, thanks to goonarmy for the reply, but I still am not certain about whether my "industrial" adjustable pin and ball tow hitch would actually work with a RR.

Somewhere I saw mention of a towing ECU. Would a RR built with no towbar electrics need a different ECU?

Cheap tow bars are fine.

You should budget for the proper LR module as this locks the EAS, sets the ATM in 'alert' mode and disables the PDC.

OK, so i assume the module is what is elsewhere referred to as the towing ecu. Is it the case that all L322's will have the wiring loom in place so that this just plugs in?

No, the wiring is also optional.

You need module(ECU) and wiring.

What the L322 has from the factory is the place to plug it all in, ie. the rear compartment fuse box. It was very good of them to do this at least,

It looks as though I might have to look for one with the towbar already fitted. I'd probably have to get an auto electrician to do the towbar electrics and also install the feed for my occasionally used towbar mounted winch.
This particular vehicle appealed because it has clear windows all round and proper wheels with reasonably chunky tyres, but it's starting to look as though it might stretch the finance a bit too far.

Well if you've got a sparky in hand maybe one of the tow bar suppliers loom kits will save a few bob. It is doable but most just hand a wedge of notes to LR for the plug n play simplicity.

(I'm positive there are several on here who could advise and teach you new ways to extract more money from fishermen, but for the life of me their names escapes me)Lol

I just installed the factory tow kit and it was fairly simple. Expensive yes, but its done and it works. Maybe you can try to source a used one - go to a yard and pull it??? Just look for one with the electrical showing in back and it will have the module - if it is just the hitch no go.
