Transfer Box Cover - Tight Nuts

Hi there, new to Landys and Landyzone, so treat me gently please.

In trying to re-seal my transfer box cover on my 300 I have a bolt that has been over tightened and is now beginning to round. Of course it is the centre top one, tucked behind the exhaust pipe, so access to get a bolt remover in is limited, 10m socket circling, 9m still too small. Have the option of heat, but wary of using this as there is oil residue around from various weeps. Any help gratefully received...

You could cold chisel the head off and get the stud out with stilsons - may even just wind out once the clamping pressure is gone.

Or.. cut a groove in the head with a saw blade and use a screw driver bit on a ratchet..

hammer the head till it mushrooms slightly so you have to hammer socket on,repeat till its removed, the hammering relaxes the bolt and shocks the corrosion plus socket fits better

Thanks, I do have these, but struggling for good access behind the exhaust pipe, it would be that bolt wouldn’t it !

Thanks for this idea, it’s been soaked in WD 40 so with the banging it may free up, thanks

Plusgas would do a far better job penetrating but something is better than nothing
Sometimes you can get a punch in on one edge and start it off if you cant get spanners in there

Thanks for your help, Plusgas purchase tomorrow and hopefully better than WD40 as although I have cut a slot for a screw driver in the bolt head, I am not able to get any movement yet ...

The bolt is OUT ! Although I could put it down to the first stage of Jedi mastery it was a combination of Plusgas, wire brush, Dremel work to cut a Screwdriver groove, a whack or two with a hammer and persistent patience.... thank you all
