ok fer wheel nuts , not fer heads ! the more yer use them the weaker the springs get , thus a poor reading / settings ! a goodun is round £40 :)

The trick is not to use them as a general purpose ratchet or breaker bar, but ONLY to set the final torque on a critical fastener after doing it up near with an appropriate wrench.

Also, to ensure you Zero the setting scale on the torque wrench after use, so that the spring isn't held constantly in tension.

Girtie was playing with my 'old' torque wrench last week, cheap £10 thing of unknown make I've had for twenty or more years, and is well battered and abused, and most often has an old jacking handle shoved up it's handle where the setting scale should be to use as a breaker bar....

Like I just warned every-one NOT to use a torque wrench!

But, that's what its used for; I have the Teng to use as a final setting tool.

However, interesting to note; things 2-+ years old and well abused, but kept without the setting scale screwed in, so no tension on the spring; put it on nuts 'set' with the calibrated Teng, and it was within a few pounds of the same torque..... vertainly accurate enough for most jobs, whwere the 'evenness' of torque accross a joint is actually more important than tha actual value.....

For £16, couild be worth having, like my 'old' torque wench; it will 'do' until you can afford something better, and can be 'retired' to being an HD wratchet come breaker bar.

totaly agree teflon, i use 2 at a time, say the bolts set at 60 lbft, i will do up with a nuckle bar, just nipped up tight then set torque wrench no 1 up fer bout 30 lbft, do all the nuts up to 30 then set no 2 up to the final 60 and do it in one good swing , not two or 3 stages as i have seen it done as it effects yer reading by miles.

40 quid for a torque wrench ? i bought a little britool one for 89 quid and the big britool one ive had for years cost me near on 200 quid second hand years ago.

like ah say its chinky **** int it, but fer some people it will be fine as they will prob only use it the once

yeah i have a britool, snapon and a mac tools torque wrench, 1/2" drive and a coulple of i think halfords or somethin, all pretty good quality, altho the newer britool is not as good as the older stuff,

gotta agree with that britool statment, the old torque wrench is real heavy and solid feeling. the newer one isnt britool is a king dick .

the largest one is of unknown make and starts from 50 to 250 LB feet/60 to 330 Nm

the britool one starts from 45 to 225 LB feet/5 to30 Km

the norbar one is not an expensive one but it is a good one, it starts from 20 to 110 LB feet/ 30 to150 Nm

the draper one again is a cheapy but does the job and starts from 120 to 960 inch pounds/1.4 to 11.1 Km

the king dick one cost 89 quid and starts from 45 to 255 CM-KGS/ 5 to 25 Nm

the norbar one has been used loads as it is a good torque wrench, the britool one is brill for bigger jobs.

its not exactly the same but the same shape, does it have the locking knurled knob on the end like mine? mine breaks and spins free when full torque is acheived , not just a click like the britool ones.

when i use a torque wrench i go up in stages especially when doing head bolts never 1 or 2 stages usually 3 or 4 stages but I use a britool cheapy 40 quid jobbie that always has the tention taken off after use. Jai
