The TD5 (10P) rebuild is still ticking along in the background. On inspecting the oil pump it’s clear the bolt has been loose at some point and so I’m not overly happy to reuse it.

Anyone have any recommendations of brand on the oil pump (LPF500020)?

Turners are selling “replacements” and say they are not available from JLR anymore. The usual other suspects also sell them, so wondering what’s best to go for? Turners want £325 for whichever brand they are selling.

Or better stilll, can the internals of the pump be replaced?

Many thanks

Just use a threadlocked new bolt then if you dont see any other damage on the pump, on a failed bolt you would have had more serious problems at the head.

sorry i have to disagree .....@ problems at the head only

Lack of oil pressure at the mains and big end journals ? Lack of oil pressure to the turbo ? Lack of oil pressure to the piston cooling jets ?

maybe if it was about low pressure but the bolt can stay in then the pressure is not affected or fall out then IMO it's no time for lack of pressure to those bits cos the damage is imminent with lot of noise and warning on and i dont think that anyone would let it run like that

in the first post he mentioned that the bolt has been loose at some point..... and this tells me its not loose any more ....... so this also explains other people have owned this and others have worked on it also ( lack of history of the engine )

dont be to sure about you dont think any one would let it run like that .... when you work in a place that has to deal with public let me know .....my wife is the same drive it untill it stops who cares not my job..... i cant complain she is a good cook though

and dont trust that oil light either some times when this comes on its to late even if the engine still runs smooth .... normally the first things to check is to remove a bottom main and big end bearing ....some people are lucky as the bearing was on the verge to spin .... or there is no hardener left on the shell ..just cought it in time ticking time bomb

i am unsure why this engine in question is due a rebuild ? but normally on a fresh rebuild a new oil pump should be considered...... as when engine oil gets warm and thins out it might not deliver enough oil ( its a tolerance thing )

I ended up ordering the oil pump internals not the whole thing (too expensive). Its a donor engine from another vehicle which I have not driven. As I said to James, there is nothing to suggest the engine was run on low oil pressure or any other problems. There was nothing wrong with this engine, I could have run it as it was but it was bought for the sole purpose of rebuilding and using in my Defender.

The bolt isn't loose any more because I've taken it all apart!!

all good mate but i was on the understanding that it apears the bolt has come loose at some point !!!! and yes the bolt will be removed by now as you have it in pieces LOL
as for the internals of an oil pump the housing is some times over looked
are you noting down any measurements ? (blue printing )

will you be using the same bottom end and head bolts ?

will you be replacing small big end and main bearings ?
how far and deep this rebuild is going but wants to use the same pistons ?
