I am getting very angry now and scared too. Prevous posts tell of the expensive repairs including fuel filter, pump, fuel filter housing and now they are looking at replacing fuel pipes. All because of starting problems and air in the system.

Got the car back and better 'ish (still not starting perfectly) but ran sweet as a nut for a few days until...

70mph, cruise control, 40 minutes driving and approx 40miles down the road and the engine lost all power (effectively died) just like I had turned the hoover off. No spluttering or indication. Restarted after 20 minutes but same happened further down the road. Would not restart and trailered back to Land Rover.

I think Engine Management or electrical issue now (wire shorting or dodgy relay). Landrover have again hitched it up to the computer and cannot find anything wrong.

Any theories or ideas from you lot out there?

**** in yer tank.... its a thing that no amount of computor gadgets can pick up.
the only way is to get a look inside the tank.. wait till it stops whip the fuel pick out and have a look see.. as i've explained on every other fred about this..; when engine go pump picks up fuel and crap from tank, fuel goes to injun, crap gets stuck to pick up filter. which blocks up there by causing no fuel to get past. engine dies, pump stops, crap drops off after a varying lenght of time. so when you go to restart after 20mins it will start. Q E ferkin D...
the same thing can happen with an auto g/box. car drives then stops, no gears, wait 30mins and car will drive again for a few miles then stop. the cause is................................; **** blocking the filter in yer gearbox then dropping off when the pump is no longer working.
i'm not saying its defo this but if it is yer garage will spend for ever and not find it..

Cool, will do but what do you mean by "whip the fuel pick out and have a look see". Pick means what? pump or pipe?

Yes it is one of those quick release pipes so I can check my manual tonight and identify correct pipe (there are two) pulling fuel from the tank.

When I release it from the fuel filter unit in the rear wheel arch and with ignition "on" it should not spurt fuel all over me, confirming the crap you talk about blocking the pick up filter.

This might not be the same issue but.....in addition to the Disco, I also run a VW Golf TDi, had a similar syptom to you, driving along, engine lost all power (like driving a non-turbo diesel), turned off, then started up again and all was OK. As I understand it, when the ECU detects a fault it shuts down the turbo boost to protect the engine, restarting will reset the system. In my case common problems are faulty boost valve or loose hose to turbo. I didn't look any more into it as its never happened again.

Ok by way of closure on this thread and after a long 8 months of hassle where Land Rover Switzerland failed, I shipped the car back to the UK into the hands of LR UK and hey presto, just got the following email;

Just had phone call from Hunters. Found oil in main injector loom & main harness, they've fitted new turbo hoses, looms & laminations. All 100% paid for by Land Rover & we have to collect tomorrow morning. She couldn't call you as she can't dial your number from her phone - uk only I suppose. So that's good news. By the way we asked the salesman ref price & he looked up trade price as being about £9995 so with luck you'll get more than £7,500.

Anyone want to buy a nice Land Rover? I got so ****ed off with it I bought a new one.
