Hi guys I’ve got a weird one and I need some help.

I’ve got a disco 2 auto with 180k on the clock.

A few months back I was cruising along and the gearbox started to hunt around for gears, I would have plenty of revs but no power delivery. It would then misfire and cut out. After leaving it for ten or so minutes it would start up and go absolutely fine sometimes for weeks.

This problem got more persistent and after a fuel filter, maf, map, air filter and boost solenoid change I thought I had cracked it but no the problem is back with a vengeance. Only difference now is that the truck when it starts to die with my foot fully planted on the floor the engine will spool up intermittently just before the dreaded misfire and death.

After 5/10 minutes it will start back up and drive fine again for what could be 50 miles or 50 meters until it happens again.

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!

Hi, you really need to plug in a compatible scanner to see if there are fault codes cos this intermittent behaviour can have various reasons, until then check the ECU red plug for oil and if there is any replace the injector loom with genuine and keep cleaning the plug once a week untill all the oil leaves the harness, check the crank sensor's wiring/plug eventually replace the sensor to rule it out... if you find many injector related codes the engine harness can be damaged, another not uncommon issue with such symptoms is ECU topside switch failure so if you get such code you'll need another or repair it... read the whole thread: https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2-a/143155-d2a-td5-misfiring-cutting-out-engine-harness.html Good luck
