Steel Wheels

Couldnt find that this had been covered before, so here goes.....

Having managed to get a set of 5 steelies off flea bay at a bargain price, imagine my surprise when the hub covers would have cost me more than the rims.... I was quoted around £20 EACH!!!!!

I know how important it is to keep the ****e away from the hubs, wheel bearings etc, so I looked at alternatives.

Part number FRC4377, the rubber centre caps off a 'Fender, fit perfectly. And the cost? £0.50p each. Bargain

Look good them, I got some steellies ages ago but like you I wasn't paying more for some plastic covers when I got the wheels for £15

Hope this works......never tried to put pics on before.

The cap just sits in the recess of the rim, pressed against the lip of the hub.

Because they are rubber, the wheel doesnt need to be removed to fit them. They deform just enough to slot in.

What offset dis you get? I'm after a second set of wheels for mine, but unsure of which offset rim to go for.

I found that the choice of rims for the Freelander very limited.

Basically, if you want steelies its the genuine part or nothing, so no choice of offset.

There are loads of after market alloys, most were 17" and above, no good if you want to fit any kind of all terrain or mud tyre. Early 15" Jeep wheels do fit though, off the Cherokee. From memory Freelander hubs are a 5x114 pcd with a 38 centre (I wait to be corrected there though).

Depends on what year as later models have an offset of 42 - I think!!

It's a 53 plate.

I believe there exists wheelnuts which can be installed slightly out of line to overcome this offset problem ??

Yeah, arent they called "wobbly bolts" or something like that?
The guys on the vectra forum I'm on mention them sometimes.

I got some of those hub caps, used the part number, They dont fit, they fall through, Way too small.

All genuine steel wheels are the same, no matter what year.
