slow to turn

hi i have a range rover 2.5tdi 1993 and ive noticed when turning left or right its like its got its brakes on and also when reversing on tight lock the front wheels seem to skip across the road.has anyone got any ideas please.

yep your viscous coupling is shot. Do you have strange tire wear too?

thanks for your help i have a little uneven wear on the outside on the drivers side is this a big job to do ?

not sure, mine was ok. Have you got a lift/pit to work with and lots of tools?and fairly au fait messing around under cars?Otherwise id say time for the garage.

It's not a big job, by all accounts, but the part isn't that cheap - I think Ashcroft Transmissions do one for for about £300.

You need to replace it though asap if it's as bad as you describe, or at least remove your front prop until you do.

ill get the front prop of will it be ok to drive as normal on the road with it of while i try and find one here in spain.

Yes, it will be, you'll just be rear wheel drive.

Before you take the prop off put some big marks everywhere so that you put it back the same way. There's lots of talk of whether it's necessary but for the sake of a few seconds with a file why take the chance?

Good advice and as per the instructions in RAVE

cos it makes no difference unless your splitting prop at slide

Maybe, but it does no harm to put it back as it came off and it does say to do it in RAVE.

hi thanks for all you help the other day prop of now and back to being able to park with tight lock agian no more skiping across the road,who knows with all the fuel im saving will help to go towards paying for the part!

Im told the handling is a dog when this gos, reverse parking sound fun.

its like trying to park or sharp turn with your brakes on!its so nice to drive again.

i cant complain its done nearly 170,000miles its had one clutch about 8 years ago ,head gasket about 6 years ago new springs and shocks and the swivels gaskets went the other day,i would say its a better built car than our td5 ,its been the best car ive had and the longest ive ever owned a car to,had it since 1999.
