I just bought a new set of 4 Insa Turbo Dakar, 235/70/16 with wheels for £340.00. Not put them under serious stress yet but seem quite grippy and not too bad on the road - a bit noisy compared to AT's but I just turn the stereo up!

What AT's did you have and how did you find them, and whats the reason for buying wheels as well.

I fort he mean't the Special Tracks cuz thas wot HB's tread pattern is from mammary.

I just think the Special's look a bit extreme for on road, not much rubber on the tarmac. Less than me Saharas anyways. Might be wrong, but I uhmmed & ahhd about which of the two ter go for before pluigging for the Saharas.

no not special tracks, the saharas, hers was same pattern but greenway machos' :D

the road noise off these grizzly's is getting on my wick plus also had a blow out on the m6 last night from the n/s rear from one of them, not impressed. it threw 3 of the nobbles off within a matter of a second then the side wall gave in. just glad the blow out was anticipated after hearing/feeling then seeing chunks of black rubber flying up in my rear view mirror and managed to keep it under control.

235/85/16 amazons again for me soon.

The original RR alloys were shod with 205/16 Goodyear Wrangler AT's, they were starting to wear a bit but actually were pretty good. The problem was they kind of ran out of grip long before mud terrains. I found I had to drive faster to get through only moderate mud so decided to change them.

BFG Mud Terrains are over £100.00 a corner, the Insa Turbo Dakar has a similar tread pattern at a much more bearable cost and the wheels were only £30/35 each when bought with 4 tyres so what the hell. Apart from that I have a spare set of wheels and tyres so I can swap them araound depending on what I'm doing.

Thanks for that:)

Come the end of summer im wanting to change from sahara's to some thing a touch more 'aggresive'. Not that ive had any problems with the Saharas only got stuck once all last year (see video at bottom) but im wanting to do more serious offroading.

Has anyone any experience with the more aggresive tread patterns?? Ive been looking at the Insa Turbo Special Tracks and the Greenway Ananconda's, both are similarly priced and I can't choose between the two?? Any help is much appreciated
Cheers

I would imagine that you were not the only one stuck that day, dont like the idea of joining straps with shackles tho, "RPG".

I haven't had a chance to test my special tracks out fully yet but I pulled a fully laden long wheel base transit van bogged down to it's axles out of a field a couple of weeks ago and it pulled like I was like I was on tarmac(except for the chunks of mud flying everywhere).

By the way it looked like the guy with the winch hooked his winch hook back onto the cable. Doing this is the primary cause of winch cables snapping right by the crimp. A 9-11mm cable should never be bent into an arc of less than 2" (50mm).

At the time unfortunately none of us had any longer straps, in hindsight it wouldnt have been too much bother to have just taken the winch out a few yards further!!! I was going to point out that he shouldnt double up the hook but me being a 'young-un' an all i dint like to correct him!!! Had a good day, although due to my tranny box seals being shot, that water was the grim reaper, hense new boxes being delivered tomorrow!!!

As for the tyres they both look as good as each other really, suppose i'll just have to see what sort of a deal i can get on them, i do like the look of the Greenways though!!! Perhaps 2 of each one set front one on back??? Haha
cheers

Ok I'm convinced it's the full monty it's getting, bits for the steering should be here tomorrow from craddocks, it seems there is no protection for the rear steering arm and damper, so I will have to be more aware of hidden bits.

The tow bar is a bit of a plough and I am thinking of making a guard for the fuel tank and taking it off. Next project, unless somebody has a good reason for keeping it on.

Talk to discobasher... he was talking about fbricating tank protection just a few weeks ago (see hertfordshire laners in the green lane section)

I borrowed Kev's mud terrains because his motor was off the road. I definitely gonna get Insa Mud Terrains. On tickover they took me through evrything I threw at them this weekend. Bleedin great, and thanks for lettingme try them out kev. (spelling oops ****ed but sincere)

Hey folks. A little off subject though bloody educatonal!

I was going down a hill at the weekend, low ratio no difflock, when the backend started to catch up with the front. Recalling your advice I tapped the throttle a little to straighten me up (steering onto the slide). Complete failure, only corrected the issue by reoving foot from throttle, applying brake (ok i know its a no no... but it was not a steep or demanding slope), kneeling gently in the drivers footwell and praying to mecca.

Could do with some more reliable advice than obsolete religous bull**** (no offense intended).

What might I be getting wrong. If there is something so obvious a tit could get it right then please tell me here because I need to get my head around this before atempting more demanding obstacles with kids in the car!

REMEMBER: when we get to the point of sliding... its too late to use the kids for extra grip. i tried that, Social services are compiling a report.

difflock would have help as you would have had garunteed engine braking on both axles

but that could have been obsolete religous bull**** ;) :p

Yeah I don't think with the difflock off that anything would of happened in the correct way! am pretty sure with DL on that a blip on the throttle would of worked.
