I meant to ask this a few days back, but work got in the way & I forgot...

The screen guy said the top trim, between the "A" pillars basically, is made of tin and just kinks the second you look at it. Apparently they are horrendously expensive to replace

Any tips on removing that part (and indeed all of it) so it comes off clean?

I have until 09:00 tomorrow (Monday 27th June  )

Thank you kindly chaps :)

Hi,yes it is flimsy but it can be done, I used a flat paint scraper from the top ,slide it under the edge and move it towards the passenger side until you feel the clip.Tap it with a small mallet and it will loosen the clip. Then use tape to hold the trim and repeat until all the clips are loose.then wiggle the trim and it will come off. its easier if you have a sunroof so you can reach the centre ones.

That's great, thank you. I didn't really believe that it couldn't be done. I guess they are all about speed & get to the next job....

If you are paying someone to change the screen he should be removing trims not you. Then if he damages them it is up to him to replace them.

Ahh, but they have some get out clause that I need to sign because I am paying, not the insurance company.

She's insured, but not MoT'd and you can guess the rest :(

Silly question, but would pouring hot water over it help to loosen the clips? It's not as if I'm worried about damaging the screen any further :p

Nothing to do with it being MOT'd, if he is payed to do a job it is his responsibility to carry that job out properly. Removing the trims and replacing them is his job not yours. Pay when the job is done to your satisfaction and not before.

Ahh yes, I realise that. But what I was getting at was the insurance company wont pay for the job because it has no test, which is a bit annoying since I pay extra for windscreen cover and I "need" a screen for the test anyway!

Bah!

I will hover and ask the chap if he can take a few moments extra to tape it down and try to prevent damage.

Thanks for the heads up and the ebay link, I have added it to my watch list anyway...

So if you take it for an MOT and it fails because of a cracked screen the insurance won't pay for because it failed the test. That is bullshit you have paid them a premium to cover your car, whether it has an MOT or not is irrelevant. Unless of course you have just insured it and the damage was done before you took out the policy that would be a different matter.

I bought it 17th May, after it sat for 3 years so if I tried it on I can imagine how much of an ass kicking I'd get from the insurance company o_O

Now if it had still been tested, but a few days left, I would have had no problem with that.

Aye the guys that did mine ,broke 2 of the pins that hold the clips on and kinked the trim .On telling me this ,i told them to glue and screw them on ,and yes the trim buzzes at speed.need a new one.
