reverse problems

hi having major problems with my 4.6 vogue auto when i select reverse it :doh:expert mechanics tell me its an dirty oil problem or a filter problem i have also been told i need a new gear box i have had all selanoids replaced not sure if i am pronouncing that correctly but i am loosing the will to live!!!

It would be helpful if you said what the problem was. If it not engaging reverse it could be the reverse clutch. If it's engaging then not driving it will be the reverse sprag clutch.

hi sorry when you put it into reverse you feel it engage but will not move and starts to judder bit like its going to stall which is bizzare as its an auto i could select and reverse if i move it into 4x4 but now even thats stopped working the problem with the reverse is only intermitent but its driving me mad

If it's intermittent and it drives normally most of the time the dirty filter/oil has merit you may a sticking valve in the valve block.
