My 2004 Disco auto 91k miles, has lost drive in reverse high and low once warm. Seems ok on first start up. Just changed oil and filter in box and oil in transfer box. When it first occurred lost drive in high reverse but ok in low. On way home, after 20 miles, in 4th going up gentle hill lost forward drive but ok in 2nd and first. For a year or so (less than 1k miles !) box reluctant to change up at start off (got to rev over 30) but better once warm. Just drove home after oil changes (and new p/steering pump which was the cause of the atf on the floor - I hope) and still reluctant to change up but fine thereafter and hill climb fine but NO reverse other than the initial jerk on selection. An hour later drive in low. Any thoughts folk ?

I say, you're a bit bold for a newbie aren't you ?

As we don't know how long you had your disco or have been using the transfer box, so could it be your not correctly selecting H or L, so vehicle being stationary with engine running tmoving the selector into N first and then insuring it locks in the position you selected, partially left in neutral position will leave with out drive.

With the D2 auto it’s unfortunate that when the gearbox is cold I take that as in winter cold, by design the gearbox doesn't change up until warm.
Strange but true so has been mentioned before in the forum, but I didn’t bother to read the reason, I've never driven an auto from 4 speed up to 9 speed that behave in that way.

Other that that some with the knowledge of the D2 gearbox and or T box will help you if its a mechanical issue.
