Morning all,

I recently removed my propshaft from a 1.8 petrol freelander to do the bearings as they were shot. After removing the propshaft, splitting it and removing the bearings I opened the boxes to find I'd been sent one bearing for the V6!.

Not to worry I thought, I'll just put the freelander aside until the correct ones arrive. I rolled it backwards off the ramps, but when I put it in gear and tried to move, it wouldn't. Engine revs up, but there is no drive.

Any idea why?

If you put back the prop/vcu and it drives, then your front wheel drive must have been disconnected. Perhaps someones removed the lay shaft or something inside the ird? Are the front drive shafts fitted?

Im with Hippo, seems the front driveshafts are disconnected.
Below is a pic of your IRD. if you have drive to the rear wheels then most of the ird should be complete. If you have no drive to your front wheels then either the diff unit from the IRD has been removed or your drive shafts arent connected...have a check and let us know.
The driveshaft from the N/S/F should be from the gearbox and getting drive.
if your prop is removed and you have axle stands try raising both front wheels and engage 1st to see if any of the wheels spin. be very careful though and chock your rear wheels well!!

bit of a strange one, never seen a posting like it on here before!

Thanks guys, I am putting it up on ramps tomorrow to re-attach the prop, so I'll have a good look around to see what is connected and what is missing.

I'll let you know.

jack both front wheels up leave car in gear spin one wheel other should turn in opposite direction if diff working if not broken hence loss of drive

Hi Rodge,
I've got exactly the same problem. Once you refitted the propshaft were you able to drive the jeep? Also did you find out why there was no drive with the prop removed?
Thanks Jon

Why don't you try a J**p forum and ask questions to members who have not been on the site for over a decade while ignoring members who take the time to reply to your posts.
