Whining noise coming from back of td4 Freelander 1. Think its the diff.. Tried the 1 back wheel up test.. Couldn't even turn wheel to check for any noise... Friend of mine said to change out any old oil in diff to check for bits of metal. .. No plug on bottom of diff.. Do you have to take off whole plate at the back? Is it hard to get off? Thanks

I got a syringe so u could suck out the oil , bought it from machine mart, also using it to refil the diff

if u can't turn the wheels might be an idea to remove ur vcu until ur sure it's not at fault to prevent any damage

u could try putting it in reverse, just off full lock and go in a figure eight , it should reverse on tick over , if it feels tight like the brakes are on , investigate it further ,

hope that helps a little bit

You do. Need to take the back of the diff of to have a look at what it going on and if all ok check the ird and vcu when you come to put the back of the diff back. On you need the sealant for oil and make sure it is all dry first
