Hi All,
New here, after a bit of help / advice.

I’m helping my son with his 1987 90, left hand cv joint basically exploded whilst off roading, the wheel locked up and couldn’t turn right.
We’ve just fitted a new cv joint, but, the splined shaft sticks out of the hub too far, we’d need a million shims and the rubber cap wouldn’t fit over it, have we got the wrong cv joint or could we have done something wrong?
That aside though, we tried a little test drive, even without the shims and circlip on the end of the cv joint, just up and down the drive and it seems to go so far and the wheels lock.
We’ve jacked up that wheel again and with diff lock on we can spin it (as expected) but with diff lock off (in neutral) we can spin it, but, every few rotations it seems to lock the wheel, if we’ve spun it fast enough it sort of bounces past locking and you can spin in some more, we’re suspecting the centre diff, but, does anyone have any other ideas on how to prove or disprove this? It’s all a bit new to me,
Thanks for any advice anyone might give

Here’s the end of the cv joint

Welcome :)
To the jungle of mecano:)

Do you have the part numbers of the bits you used and are you sure the axle is original?
Things and POs change things so it can be a minefield

We’ve jacked up that wheel again and with diff lock on we can spin it (as expected) but with diff lock off (in neutral) we can spin it,
I guess theres a typo in there?

Sorry, yes a typo! With diff lock on we can’t spin the wheel! With diff lock off it spins but after a few revolutions it locks again if spinning gently, if we spin faster it sort of bounces past the locking bit, don’t want to drive it if it could lock up when being driven!
The part number for the cv kit was DA6058 britpart.
Thanks

The only way to find out is to strip it out again and check new parts against old parts.
Cv joint not attached to drive shaft properly, if that's at all possible?
Wrong stub axle, if possible?
Does the stub axle have a bronze (?) bush on the inside of it, worn out?
Wrong cv joint?

You have the wrong CV shaft, as others say comparison with old is only way for sure as who knows what has been fitted to older trucks.
Given how you broke CV and the knotch when turning other damage has likely happened.
Have you drained and checked axle diff oil? Tooth or two may have gone missing.
Disconnect front prop, still chunks its not the center diff.
