Because when the problem occurred I changed the pump and it still would not start until it cooled down .I'm just a normal 48 yr old bloke ,not some tosser trying to get a cheap fix ,sorry for any of my delays I don't know how to get alerts
Ease up fella...never said anything of the sort...what makes you think I was implying you were after a cheap fix???

I just asked what you have done to check the HP Pump is all....

The thing with a Diesel is basically all it needs to fire up up is Heat/Compression, Fuel and a motor spinning fast enough...

Hows your battery and/or starter motor - is it spinning up quick enough??

Have a read in RAVE there must be a way of checking fuel pressure is high enough - even if the HP Pump is running, if the Pressure regulator is duff, you won't get injection pressure...

Have you whipped out the injectors and tested them (as much as I hate to point you towards Wheeler Dealers - but Edd China shows a simple way of testing the injector....it should be a fine misty spray)

If you have speed and fuel - the only thing left really is Compression or heat...if the engine is hot it can only be compression or fuelling timing....

Even common rail diesels of the modern era are simple in principle - Heat/Compression, Fuel and timing...nowt else it can be, unless there is a sensor issue, but you say nothing is showing on diagnostics....

I think the way forward is to get the problem occurring outside a garage with correct equipment ,clear codes and see what new ones come up and let you know. thanks very much saint

Unless I'm very much mistaken, you have been on here before under another name and ended up banned. Obviously you have escaped from the asylum again.

Don't think you get banned for having fun, do you remember what that was?
Just laugh once in a while and i'll stop annoying you:cool:

I would bet it will not show a fault code. Saint covered all the things needed for a common rail diesel to start bar one, if the fuel pressure is insufficient it will not start. I believe it's possible to check the presure on the common rail, that would be a good place to start. Is the cranking speed, which is critical on a diesel, slower when hot?

Post 43 - indicates checking for Fuel Pressure :D:D:D:D:D:D

OK admitedly I said all it needs to run is Compression/Heat, A fast Spin and Fuel - and I never mentioned Fuel Pressure per se, but is what I meant :D:eek:

I know what you meant Ant but I thought it worth adding to the other 4 conditions you gave so the requirements were all together in the same place:)
