hi iam new to this so don't laugh!!!!!!!! I am having nothing but trouble with my front gator splitting on the front prop,of my freelander 1 its happened 3 times now, nearly £400 to replace front prop as the y say a gaitor cant be bought seperately, any ideas ?????????? also why have diffs of different ratios and a viscos coupling to slip and allow for it, why not have same diff ratios and solid prop with permenant 4wd,,,???????????

hi yes but I would have though a same ratio diff front and rear would allow for wheel arcs anyway, your normal landrover defender etc has same diff ratios and solid prop and no wheel wind up so why not freelander, just seems a bloody stupid idea that's expensive when it goes wrong as mine has regularly, shame because I love the car otherwise...

no rear wheels travel in a smaller arc than fronts hence need of center diff or with a fl a vcu, equal 4wd landies have a center diff , series landies are rear wheel drive except when you engage 4wd but that is only for loose surfaces so no wind up occurs, rrc and p38 have equal 4wd (diff ratios) and a center diff and vcu instead of diff lock ,the vcu does stiffen on those too but after a greater mileage as with equal diff ratios theres less strain on vcu

hi ok thanks for that, think I understand:) thanks for gaitor link, just ordered one, what grease does it need in??????

hi thanks mate glad to have joined you all, love my freelander but had lots of trouble over the years with propshaft, but I know its common, but just can figure out why it keeps splitting the front prop gaitor, its had all sorts, new vicous coupling new original landy carrier bearings new prop front section new rear axle mounts but still it keeps spitting ?????????????????????????????????? bugger, last about 10 month between splits

hi does anyone know how far along the shaft the rubber gaitor needs to be when fitting as I paid £400 for a complete front end and I think they stretched it too far and so when the joint moved in and out it has split it, so after paying out all that a very kind member gave me a link for a gaitor which I have now received and am going to fit myself ,for just under£40 bargain, can anybody advise??????????????thanks

hi all merry Christmas, can anyone help, I have fitted some new leather seats to my freelander 1 from a newer car and it has brought the SRS light on, so I thought the seat new sensors must be faulty so I was going to buy some new, but noticed they were a different part number to original seats I took out, does the cars computer have to match up to original seat sensors, so I will have to get the original part numbers or shall I just get new ones to match these seats?????????????????????? thanks
