The, what can be best described as a droning noise, persists on my V6 Freelander. New VCU and GKN bearings some 4k miles ago now, the noise has not got any worse, but certainly has not gone away. I have Scorpions on with around 5mm of tread. It starts at around 30mph and pretty much disappears at around 60-70mph. Seems to be worse on concrete type roads rather than conventional tarmac but there is definitely a, what I would describe, tyre noise evident which changes with the road surface. It's been on a 4-post hoist and apparently the noise isn't there??? As I must have covered over 5k miles with this noise now I would have thought that if it was the diff' or wheel bearing(?) then one or the other would have failed catastrophically by now; wouldn't it?

Are scorpions that noisy? Or will the diff' give up on me sooner or later?

I think you have answered your self it is more than likely your tyres my wife's car produced a noise ,and when taken for a mot a couple of years ago the mot man said your bearings are going and wanted to do the job I told him it was tyre's, he did not believe me , so after much ado we changed the tyre's , and hardly any noise , I did ask him if he was going to add the to the tyre pot. he just walked of , we do not go there any more.

As an update had a set of Grabbers put on last week, transformed the car. So quiet the differences is almost unbelievable, even on the concrete sections of the A14.

Thank goodnessI didn't have the diff or anything else changed.
