Hi all,,
I have started to hear a change in noise as I’m moving along.
a slight underlying wure (if that’s a word)
Has anybody experienced the same ? Does anyone know how you can tell if the diff is about to go and is this a common problem on an LRF2 (130,000 miles )
thanks all
Ollie

Diff noise can start at any distance from 10k to 150k. Most Freelander 2s will have had at least one diff before 100k, my TD4 has had 2, one at 90k, and another at 119, although the second one was needed because the person fitting the replacement didn't put any oil in it.
When the diff starts to make a noise, it begins with a quiet hum or wuring sound, that steadily gets louder as the miles go on.
Bell Engineering can fit a reconditioned diff in ½ a day, and prices are reasonable. You can also recondition the diff yourself, if you are skilled and have the special tools for the job. I did my replacement diff in about ½ a day, but I've rebuilt several diffs and gearboxes over the years.

First thing to do is pull a sample of oil out the diff with a syringe and thin tube, a worn diff bearing will have leave shiny or grey particles in the oil.

Wow, thank you for the quick and informative response.
defo a small wure at the minute.
it’s going in for a service so will get them to check unfortunately I’m not mechanically minded.
thanks again
