Hi all,
I recently bought a 2007 FL2 with 2.2 TD4 engine. I went to get the yearly MOT done which resulted in some skipped heartbeats and money loss. The engineer performing the MOT came quite early to tell me that the engine let out a "bad" noise during emission test. Engine speed was around 4k rpm and the engineer shut off the engine immediately after he heard the noise. The MOT was discontinued and the engineer evaluated that the engine might have jumped timing.
I tried to start the engine to evaluate myself if the engine is seized due to jumped timing or if the noise was something else. The engine tried to start but there was some clicking and knocking that there was not supposed to be. So I got the car towed to a workshop that is specialized in diesel engines. They managed to get engine running, there were no additional sounds heard but on the test drive they managed to get a faut code from the throttle body. They did not find any signs of jumped timing or other possible faults, so they replaced the throttle body and fuel filter.
The engine works fine for now, but I'm curious about the throttle body. Could it be that clicking and knocking that I heard came from the throttle body that possibly had gear failure or something similar? Maybe the flap inside the throttle body flapped freely against the throttle body or something? Any ideas or similar experiences? Thank you for your answers in advance!
