P38 Side Step replacement

My 1997 P38 has what I think are standard JLR running boards, with rubber end caps. The pipework has rusted through and I am thinking of replacing them. Rimmers have some aftermarket ones (STC8500) that look simpler but that would be a good thing. They also have some "Rock Tree sliders" which presumably are designed for the off-road boys. Any suggestions as to the best ones to get? I would quite like to lose the clumsy rubber end caps. Simple is good, and they are for mounting and dismounting in town, not for crossing the Darien Gap.

OK, undeterred, I'll ask a technical question
(Have searched the forum and can't find a relevant answer to this).
Running down the M11 to Stansted in my P38 with the rain bucketing down stair-rods.
All fine, but then for no good reason, both front and rear screen washers stopped spraying, at the same (sequential) time.
The wipers work as they should, when the end buttons on the stalk are pressed, but no water spray.
Seems odd that both should fail at the same time, and I can't find any reference to a common fuse.
No idea how to get at the pumps which seem to be hidden under the battery compartment..??
Any help, as ever, gratefully appreciated....

Water in the connectors maybe? Access from underneath unless you want to remove the bumper:eek: Unless you are out of fluid of course.
 
Oh dear. Closer inspection reveals that the front screen washers pipe fell off the non-return valve.
Pushed it back on and ordered the right size of mikalor clip. A long motorway run warmed up the pipe.
Now I need to trace the rear pipe and hope to find the same problem.
I can hear the pump running when the button is pressed.
No obvious sign of leakage onto the garage floor so possibly a blockage - I'll start with a pin into the jet.
Haven't used the washers much as I try not to go out in the rain - the roads get so DIRTY.
 
Rear nrv is in the lh load space...access the lh rear light cluster, stick your hand in and you'll get to it...bit of a pig....nrvs just get clogged up and stop functioning, esp. rear, cheap to replace

Do you know if it pulls down anymore? I reckon that might be my issue aswell had a feel earlier and reckon I can feel it but couldn’t get any movement on it, I do already have a replacement ready but didnt really want to go try pulling stuff off with being able to see it as it seems to be a decent way up to me.
 
the pipe doesn't really pull down, I had to pull the side shelf off as well. (above the amp/ cd player).. there's another recess in there and I had to use both - you need nimble hands for sure.. there's also a little metal clip on the NRV so it doesnt just pull off, you'll need some long nose pliers first

I'd go for the Terrfirma rocksliders if I was going to put anything on. I prefermine without. Looks like a muffin-top on a fat lass with side-steps.

Side-steps removed - looks so much better - that comment ref muffin-tops is so accurate. Now it has the correct "stance" to use a hoodie expression.

Discovered that pressing and holding the rear wash button results in a spray eventually - so I imagine that the non-return valve is ... er ... allowing returns. Probably lack of use, hopefully it will clear itself and start stopping the return flow, if you see what I mean.

Or you've got a pinhole in the pipe letting air in ...

Hello, I am in the same predicament as you and wondered what side steps you chose or did you repair.
