Oil treatment: seal conditioner

Oil change every 6K is OK, at least it is on mine but I use synthetic. Most of my journeys are 20 miles each way, there is no mayo in the cam cover.
A duff stat stopping it getting up to full temperature will perhaps cause it.

I did have a duff stat prior to the last oil change, but swapped it out after spotting the operating temp drop to ~80C. It's in the correct range since the replacement of both the stat and the coolant temp sensor on the elbow.

I guess the hybrid turbo probably helps reduce the oil life.

I'll see what things are like after an oil change. Ta.

Please would you explain to this amateur mechanic why the provent is a daft aftermarket kit?

It's pretty unusual for the engine to run for anything less than the period it takes for the coolant to get up to temp, most of the journeys are an hour long or more. Is that not enough for there to be no breather mayo.

Hope you can read this OK from the top of your ivory tower.

I have earned the right to sit in my ivory tower with fifty plus years of experience. Have you fitted magnets on the fuel line as well. Why fit something that is not needed? Or do you like to play with things you don't understand?

Define "high miler". I'm at 120K, and it's been pretty well kept since with me - can't comment for the previous 80K it had done though.

I disagree, 5w30 seems to be the consensus pretty much everywhere other than this thread (above comment excepted).

disagree all you want, you asked what oil to use,it left the factory with 10w 40 semi synth in it,not 5w 30.i think the manufacturer knows more than any concensus.

here you go bud, from another site.

Use what u want but there will be no additional benifits with fully synthetic oil on a bog standard engine other that extended oil changes up to 10,000 -12,000miles which happens with modern cars.

When my disco was serviced by LR main dealer they used semi-synthetic so I have carried on using it, even when i've used indipentant to do a service they semi-synthetic, the brands change
Some use a thicker grade mineral oil to hide the wear in their engine, I believe their engines rattle on synthetic oils

My part of the world and ambenant temps 10w40 is fine, the same grade as when my disco left the factory. :D

No but the flux capacitor has been playing up lately.

Why do people ask questions then when they get the answer start shouting the odds. If they think they know better than the person answering why ask in the first place? :D:D

TD5s don't have flux capacitors you made that up. You obviously like playing. It appears your expensive provent don't work to good. 10w 40 is what you need. Synthetic oil is only used to cover extended service intervals. Standard mineral oil changed more often is just as good.

No only Deloreans are fitted with them as standard since "Back to the future" was first shown. Sorry to let you down so cruelly but that's the way it is old mate. :p:D:D

Get over yourselves, I've graciously accepted your wisdom - even have 8L of 10w40 in the boot ready to go in.

Just a shame you didn't learn to not be a tosser in those 50 years eh.
