Just been out to work on the 110 after getting it recovered last night, and it is not the turbo as i thought

Started it up... Fired first time (Was ready to stall it incase it ran away!), Sounds fine, Tiny bit of white smoke... Oil bubbling from the breather!

Was doing about 55, when there was a loud noise like someone had stuck a metal ruler in a fan, lots of smoke and it stalled when I was pulling on to the hard shoulder. There was a trail of oil leading to where the 110 was and a massive puddle underneath, and there was no oil on the dipstick when I checked it!

Any ideas? It did not get hot on the way home (Beetween 1/2 and 3/4 where it normally sits....)

If its the breather, then the crankcase must be being pressurised. Either ro G's have bone or yu gotta hole in a piston.
Have yu got a snorkel? Have yu taken in water into the injun yesterday.

I would not have thought rings as the engine was running fine yesterday morning and rings don't suddendly go like that? (Unless I am mistaken?) I have not got a snorkel (Well I have, but it is not connected up ) so I could have taken water in, but I think it is strange that something would suddenly happen on the way home?

Done abit more digging... Oil level is high (Must be after I topped it up last night when there was no oil on the dip stick?) but the oil does not seem right to me... Looks sort of milky... Therefore I am thinking head gasket or similar? However that would still not explain the masses of smoke behind me and the BAD noise!

Right, I think....

Water in oil from a puddle yesterday (Coolant has not gone down a great amount.)
Oil coming from breather as it is well over the top

STILL Can't work out the noise and smoke though?

Right...

Pulled the push rods and checked em (Straight edge and Rolled them). All Ok.
Pulled the Intercooler pipes and the Intercooler has some oil in it, tried firing it up without pipes connected.... Same thing.
Changed the Breather for a spare (Old one was a metal type, that I have never seen?)
Drained the oil into a bucket. It is not milky, nor did it have silvery streaks in it. I asked my Dad to look at the oil and he said it smelt like old oil that had not been changed in a while, however it is only about 500 Miles old!
Refilled it to the correct amount, with the correct oil....

**** all difference :( I am fed up with it now and It is costing me a stupid amount. This is the 4th or 5th engine (I have lost count ) in the past 18 Months.

Think it may end up on E-Bay very soon...

with all engines in 18 months you would be better to get a reconditioned one/ Look at turner engineering not priced to bad , it would of been cheaper than the 5th or 6th at this point in time

when you said oil bubbling from breather ,where exactly ,does it breath heavy out of filler cap if removed ,do all valves open equally ,turbo spin freely ,is air filter wet

what engine? 2.5 turbo diesel?,i know somebody selling one cheap, complete and has been reconned not a million miles ago.

It is a 200TDI, It had a Metal breather with an upwards port at the top and oil was pouring out of there with the engine running. I changed it to the other plastic type and all it is doing now is firing a stream of oil. (Incase that was not clear, it is where the breather pipe that goes to the air filter connects)

Will have to check if it is breathing heavily out of the cap, but i can't really leave it running for long as it is throwing so much oil out of it.

Turbo feels fine

Air Filter could have got wet, I can't say for definte but I did have a big "OH ****" moment yesterday that water could have entered the filter from but it was running fine after that. The reason I can't say for definite is that it is covered in oil now :(

Valve, I will have to check on Tuesday when i get some time.. What would you suggest as the best way to check this?

Had a brainwave.. sort of...

Is there any possibility, that a ****ed turbo could be pressurising the crankcase or oil system? There is no way that what is coming from the breather is pistion blow-by or similar, it is streaming out... If that turbo is ****ed, it would explain the noise and smoke.. Hmmm... Never heard of a turbo doing that before though!

if its 200 tdi it could be leak in vacuum system, vac pump exhausts to engine ,pistons ,closed or not fully opening valves, head gasket

Pulled the head off tonight.... OH COUNTRY FISH STICKS.

No.4 Piston has decided to weld part of itself to the bore. :(

Oh well... Plan of action is, try using a honing tool to sort the bore out, Use a Pistion Crown from my old engine (Luckily they are both standard size) along with a new set of rings... Put it all back together and hope for the best. Bit of a lash up, but I loath to spend more money on it. :(
