Hi guys,

Got yet another problem with my discovery. The starter has started to not catch. Essentially I can hear the solenoid click and the starter spin - sounds like a drill but it wont catch. After 15-20 tries, it will scrape/grind and the next turn of the key, it fires into life.

I have cleaned the positive connector off and brushed down the threads but is this a case of change the whole starter or just solenoid or something else

My uncles RRC had a knackared starter motor. He is deaf and cannot her it grinding so when he left here the other day it graunched like mad. I got a call saying it won't start so my bro pulled the starter motor out. the Ali housing at the end of the strter motor had shattered bits of starter fell in the bell housing and around the starter ring. Much inspection and washing out of the bell housing and more checking of ring teeth and eventually once satisfied that the main gear had no dmage and was free of debris a new starter was installed and working.

Never seen a starter in so many bits!
