I have noticed that there does seem to be far more posts about problems with diesels.....in particular the TD4.

When I bought my 1.8 petrol...just about everyone I know sais...what did you do that for.

It seems I made the right choice if we all believe in the law of averages.


Dont get me wrong..I am a member of the HG failure club...but I knew that was coming and was well prepared.
 
There are more diesel LR's on the road, most people would not buy a petrol for economic reasons so relative to this there will be more questions about diesel hippos.
 
My guess would be that 80% of all FL are diesel, been either the older Di or the TD4 which would mean that more posts will be about the diesels.

a large majority of the people on this forum joined (initially at least) because they had a problem and were looking for help. If the diesel is the most common, then by percentage, there will be a greater number of problems posted.

Also (quite rightly) the majority of people seeking advice will list what vehicle they have, including engine option, even if the problem isn't necessarily engine related. To a casual observer, it would therefore appear another engine fault has been posted, when it may not be at all.

Glad yours is going peachy, you seem to have gone into FL ownership with your eyes open. As ever, not a matter of if but when.

I refer the diseasel tratta boys to the above faults poll,

Option 1 - covers the 1.8 and 2.5 engines, Option 3 - covers Td4 engine alone

Option 3 has the same number of counts as option 1 so the Td4 is more problematic than the two petrol engines combined.

We can't give the ratio of petrol to diesel engines out there, those manufacturing figures should be available.

If the faults poll show the TD4 to be as problematic as the petrols then the faults poll is an ass. (Apologies to C. Dickens)
 
Im surprised at the number of replies to the poll and the number of views.

I'd say over 250 replies is statistically robust sample number, if only peeps had posted as well as voted, then we could backup the numbers

With spammers aside, possibly 10%, its a good representation of the members on here.

You'll only have to go into the other Td4 forums, BMW or MG 75/ZS/ZT to see a similar pattern.

If anything the L-series has come out trumps, but then it was £30m in the making of it, a local boy (Mad) has squeezed 150bhp out of his

Oh well, that must mean that the petrol engines are better than the Td4 then eh. I'd better swap my nasty unreliable Td4 for one of them classy K-series jobbies asap.............................................................not
