Hi I hope someone can help
I fitted a new alternator to my freelander td4 2001
It started and ran for about 5 mins then stopped then it would only turn over but not start
I noticed that fuse f10 under the bonnet had blown I replaced it but when I turn ignition on the fuse blows again.
I'm really confused as all I have done is change the alternator it was fine before.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Fuse 10 feeds the fuel pumps via the inhibitor shock switch behind the battery. Worth a visual on wiring.

Can't see how this is linked to your work but how did alternator fail, was it perhaps a short circuit somewhere?

Also, check fuel pumps.not drawing excessive current.

Hi Andy
The battery light was on for a couple of days so had it checked garage said alternator was failing.
I got hold of a new one which was 150amp the old one was 120amp
Once fitted it started right up 14v going to battery after about 5 mins cut out and wouldn't start, found f10 had blown replaced but blows as soon as ignition is switch on.

I'm suspecting that maybe a fault existed drawing high current and so the alternator was diagnosed. Possible?

Fuse 10 feeds as above. Check fuel pump current drawn by connecting to another supply or isolating pumps and see if current at fuse 10 is excessive.

Hi Andy
I disconnected the inertia switch plug, fitted new fuse turn ignition on fuse was still good I suppose that means broken cable or fuel pump knackered.

I would unplug and test both pumps and loom with both unplugged.

Loom with a resistance meter and you could check pumps in same way or with a fused pair of wires to a battery or 12v supply.

Hi
Latest update disconnected rear pump, fuse all good and front pump working.
Dont seem to get any voltage out of rear pump plug, will try a battery on the pump tomorrow still really confused tho
