Hi everyone.just fitted a turbo to my Freelander 1 td4 (2006)and found i have no power when going up hills.
there's no oil burning ,no water loss but there is a sign of choking off when changing gear .Could this mean
the motor needs a re-mapping or could it be timing? P.S. loads of poke on the flat.

go over what you did changing the turbo and check everything. Look for loose hoses etc.

why should replacing the turbo affect timing or mapping?

It's worth looking at the live data for fuel pressure in both low and high pressure pumps.

Also make sure you have the boost solonoid pipe connections correct.

hi mad hat. just thought though could be possibilities as you here so many strange tales about having to reset this that and the other on these freelanders and seeing as this is my first diesel i'm quite lost at times .also when i'm driving there is sometimes but not always a smell of hot oil coming in the cab and the exhaust smell is very rich. I've changed the crankcase breather for the new bmw part and am at a loss now. Thanks for your advice and any other info on the above would be a big help

hi nodge, where is this solenoid pipe and how do i check the fuel pressure. Sorry to be so naive but as i said this is my first diesel and i'm an absolute novice. Haven't done anything since points, plugs and condensers bit the dust!

Being that it's an 06 TD4. It is OBD2 compliant. This means that pretty much any basic code reader will be able to read faults. In addition, many readers now show live data from the various sensors.

You can even get a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle for under £10 that plugs into the data port. This will then allow you to read various bits of data using a smart phone. I like Torque myself as it's very comprehensive. There are others out there that are good too.
