Hi all, better say hello to you all as I'm a defector from the 90 mob next door !
Hope someone can help, just got my first disco 300tdi (the wife made me do it ) and on the flat she's fantastic, but if I try to set off on a hill I have to rev the bits off it to go through the gears ( my very old 90 flew up the same hill) What I need to know is can I open the pump up and can I adjust the turbo, and how do I do it on a 300?
Thanks for your time and I hope all the disco lads and lasses are like the defender mob!

i'd make sure everything is ok before tweaking it.

first off is to check for loose/split turbo pipes and intercooler.

also top pipe off the inlet manifold and look to see if it's full o gunk.

also check the egr for leaks or just remove it and blank.

then it's look at the wastegate.. is it seized?. unclip the actuator and see if it moves freely.

also check boost pipe round the back to the pump.

then check to see if the lift pump is working alright.

then you can look at fuel side... disco have the sedimenter thingy..

also check the rockers are set correctly my 200 d1 rockers were miles out and she pulls alot better now. I found 2mm gap on a couple of rockers so I would definitely check there first it's free if you have a feeler gauge, screwdriver and a couple of spanners

Mines a Auto, some times it goes like stink others its a real slouch, just depends why mood its in, i put my problems down to

Blocking fuel filter

The simple things in life as its never been changed forever, short boots of power its generally fine but when you lay on the demand it seams to drop off the power eg. hills or motorways over 70 it just feels like its holding back if you throttle off for a few seconds then boot it again it goes and then drops off again a classic sign of fuel restriction,

Why haven't i changed it ? Simples i can't be arsed :5back2:

Where is the pipe off the back of pump your talkin about.my manual does the same but nothing in the list is at fault.so goin look for the boost pipe at turbo and pump but dont no what im lookinv for

look at the pump, left of engine and you'll see a pipe going into the bulkhead side iirc. follow it back and it should go around the back of the engine and to a t piece that's connected to the turbo.

Might be worth checking the manifold gasket too.i just changed mine and what a difference it made.am goin to get the pick up pipe ordered as soon as i find the part number.

Mines the same, and my lift pump is ****ing fuel out lol.. hence the new one sitting on the dash. Granted, it would perform much better under the bonnet.. its just finding the time haha!
