Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just picked up a '97 P plate 2.5 DSE auto. It's Epsom green with the updated clear lenses, cloth seats, lots of miles, minor rust but otherwise bodywork is sound. It's been changed to coil springs but the EAS fault shows on the dash. It's got monster 255 section Colways on I think Autobiography 18" wheels.

New to ownership but have driven a RRSport TDV8 on hire before :) (and a new ML320CDI :banplease: )

No manual with the car :(

Got a few niggly issues. Done a quick search but can't seem to find what I'm looking for:

1) Spare key fob: changed the batteries but it won't lock/unlock the car. Any ideas? I can't seem to figure out the right re-sync procedure.

2) Windscreen wash: push the button in but no screenwash comes out, same for front and rear. Wipers don't even move and I can't even hear any noise to suggest that any screenwash is pumping to come through. Quick look seems to show water pipe run is ok. Could it be a fuse? Which one?

3) Intermittent wipe: don't seem to have one! I've got really fast and really really fast!

I assume that push the stalk down 1 for intermittent, down again for normal and down again for fast wipe?

4) Rear windows: they work on the rear window switch on the rear doors but not from the centre switch console.

5) Alarm fault: comes up on dash but doesn't seem to hinder running or start up?!

6) Windows/sunroof open: constantly says this even though they are closed!?

7) Heated seats don't seem to work. Light on dash comes on but bum doesn't get warm!

8) Lumbar support: how does that work? Found the button that pumps it up but can't seem to let it out!?

Hope you guys and gals can give me a few pointers!! :)

Thanks, I'll keep on searching. Log book says DSE and so does badge. Either way not too bothered. I thought cloth was a no cost option.

1, put key in lock and turn it then press lock button. or hold button turn key in that direction, turn other way holding button for that direction.

2, look at the fuse box under drivers seat, you should see the picture for wipers etc.

3, could be linked to washer above, could be stalk too.

4, check the switch pack with a multi meter, try a known good one if poss. common fault!

5, this is the volumetric sensor above passenger seat, check wires are on, it just pulls off, if wires on, replace unit. i think the classics are the same not sure tho

6, this is the mechanism, try senfing roof all the way back then all way forward then tilt up and tilt down. if it tilts then its prolly mechanism that need cleaning (theres a microswitch in there) try also removing the light cluster and winding by hand, close roof then wind to lock it off the mechanism. this might help it along a bit.

7, heated seats are common. the element breaks at the 'ribs' in the seat base between the two halve of the base. dismantle and repair wire then protect it against the metal inserts. common issues.

8, look behind the switch pack on the seat controls, re solder wire back on that is dangling. common issues, poor quality parts used!!!

it sounds like a big list but as you say they are niggly bits and easy to sort or ignore!!!

good luck!!

Hi edc,

I think (if I recall correctly) you have to run through what is called the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code......

This is a way of telling the vehicle BeCM that the key you are using is authorised.

Let us consider your EKA number is 1234 you would put the key in the drivers door lock and turn it to the left once then right twice, then left 3 times and finally right 4 times (the number is unique to each vehicle) then cycle the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob, once this is completed the vehicle will be unlocked, a message on the display will say key number # has been synched and the fob should now work with full functionality.

Beware: You must use the vehicles EKA code as I think an incorrect entry more than 3 times will lock you and the car for a period of time before you can try again. The number can usually found on a security card with the original paperwork, I am not sure if Land Rover can find it out for you and if they can it will cost you!

Hope it helps.

Saint.

Thanks Saint. Unfortunately absolutely no original paperwork with the car, no security card, no manual :(

I have seen reference to EKA on here - is there any other way to find it out?

Funny that I am writing this as you are probably within a couple of miles from me as I am in Knaphill too!!!
