It isn't bad. Just follow RAVE. Got a a vague memory you need quite a thin walled socket for some of the bolts on the rocker covers. Give yourself a weekend. Take an easy day taking it apart and an easy day putting it back together. Piece of cardboard and poke holes through so the push-rods all go back where they came from.

May do just got to contemplate it with it been my daily and the missus has disabilities so can't be without a runner really ill have to see how I go or just replace the range or engine may be more viable for me

A noisey tappet is not gonna render the vehicle unusable - maybe a tad under powered, noisey and annoying....but swapping out an engine for the sake of checking the tappets is a little extreme!!!

Also, if you need reliable (even without noisey tappets) a Range Rover is not the car for you!

I am Range Rovers biggest fan, I have owned many and have been driving them for over 20 years, but even I have a spare car for when the time comes it throws a hissy and refuses to play the game. They are cars for enthusiasts not as a daily driver - cos, yes they can be driven daily and there are many very good ones out there - but similarly, there are some shockers too.....and it is hit and miss so plan for it!

Yeah I know the issues lol when I say daily that is vague as I barely drive 5k in a year maybe I'd have been better stating weekly driver lol just got to be sure when I do attempt it as it'd be a couple of weeks work to me not a couple of days as of time and other commitments also know that tappets aren't that much of an issue apart from sounding like a 1.2 corsa lmao and yes plenty of these beasts have been abused half to death luckily apart from the Tappet it's pretty good for the 500 it owes me no electrical gremlins just a dead maf coupe of co2 sensors a tyre and the battery thats going on it today don't think it's a real badist of things that need doing with 10 month test on it the rest of it is pretty much tidy for a 01

Henry,

honestly fella, doing the lifters is no biggie. unless the engine is toast theres more work in an engine swap out than doing the lifters. you can get at the the lifters in a couple of hours. I tend to look through the parts catalogue and order up the bits i will need, or not 'need' but want to replace 'while i'm in there' get them all together than plan a weekend to do it. (i usally order from Maltings 4x4, Island 4x4, Paddock Spares, John Craddock or Britcar) rarely been bitten by a wrong part.

i find an exploded diagram very helpful in working out how things go together, Rave is excellent and the guys here are amazing at help and sarcasm in equal measure. go for it.. pull it apart !

Mate the jag weren't worth a bean tidy but 9 owners previous cat c 4 week test left on it was gonna pull it apart n sell it for bits but the lad offered this up n 400 only gave 600 on the jag t start with and had it all of 6 week in summer

Hmm i like in the middle of butt feck nowhere so when i eventually get to drive me RR it might be slightly less than a galactic ass crack amount of cash per year! :D

Have to rebuild the thing first!! :) ;)
