Mud tyre suggestions

My Series 3 landy is my second car. Only gets used for going off road. What do you lot recommend for serious mud tyres? I have 7.50 16s at the moment, Flamingos on the front and Olympic super mud pluggas on the back. The flamingos treads don't self clean and with them being quite narrow, thick mud is deffinitly this landys weak point.

I'd like to go for as wide as possible as I reckon this would help with spreading a bit of weight over the soft ground.


This is a comparison of my mates Green Way Annacondas, 265 75 16 with my Mud pluggas.




The spaced out tread of the Annacondas seems ideal for the thick mud as it doesn't get clogged up and it acts as a paddle in the stuff.



Whats your recommendations and whats the cheapest place to get them?

insa turbo special track, or a copy as they are sold everywhere

simex 35/10.50/16...or silverstone extreme 35/11.50/15

Them big mofo tyres are insane money! £800 with wheels...


Theres some Insa Special Tracks in the size I want, 265 75 16 on ebay, 2657516 265/75/16 Insa Turbo Special Track 4 Tyres on eBay (end time 08-Feb-10 11:30:56 GMT)

it's just spending £330 on tyres.... I find it difficult to do


Anybody know of second hand sets for sale? Or a cheaper place for these tyres?

Ad, it may be hard to justify spending that much on tyres, but it is the single most important mod to do. it is the one thing that will hugely alter your vehicles capability. i would happily spend cash on tyres, and skimp on other areas. at the end of the day the quality of a tyre will directly correlate with your success in the muddy stuff. and also how long it lasts. sure you could go for a second hand set, but they are going to wear faster, have less tread, and may have some damage which could cause issues down the line

save up a little while, and maybe skimp on doing something cosmetic, and then get a good set of rubbers, its really worth it

Thanks stunty. Insaa good but remoulds and in my buddies (yes Trewy your not my only friend) experience dont last long if used on road at all. BFG still best mud tyre in world (I know they are dear but they last and grip like buggery) Previous post right tyres best mod you can do and best value mod

Series 3?Get some deestone extra traction, cheap cheafull and do the trick!

I have insa turbos special tracks....they are brilliant in the mud..
as i dont drive much on the road, doesnt bother me, and they are not bad in the wet tarmac either, never had any problems..

Will 265x75x16 BF MT fit on the defender 90 original alloy rims?

yes they will but you might get a little rubbing on full lock on your radious arms

The Dee Stone tyres are the same tread pattern as the Flamingos I have on the front. They aren't the best, only 7.5 inch wide and the tread gets clogged up with mud too easily.



The Insa Special Tracks do seem the best bet. £330 though.... Going to take me a few days to talk myself in to blowing a wad like that

adjust the lock stops as for special tracks got 265/75/16's on mine- insane in the mud

I have wheel spacers installed. Can this make any difference on the rubbing?

Dont use the wheel spacers take them out. Causes unequal and increased forces on the wheels especially bearings. Terrible and unnescessary things

my spacers have been on over 6 months and with 35" tyres ive had no probs with wheel bearings
