It isn't .. it's only a problem when you leave it running and leave the vehicle .. If you're in it, so long as you're sober, it's all good ..

Perhaps you can post a link on that Paul, i've searched web although very quickly and it's easy to find the ruling on leaving the engine running but an unattended vehicle nothing.

Recovery vehicle drivers leave their engine running when working at the rear they have to, if there was a rule that you must not leave the cab what would happen poss they would have to double up.

im a bit late to this but ,thats the answer by the look of it ,defrosting is good reason raise:

"Norfolk Police have warned drivers in the area that starting the engine to defrost a car and leaving the vehicle unattended is a criminal offence - known as quitting - and could make it easy for car thieves.

The police force issued a statement warning drivers of this problem following the theft of a vehicle in Sprowston yesterday (December 16th) morning at approximately 07:20 GMT."

Lots on 'Quitting' on the www I see it only applies to the the public highway and not applicable to emergency vehicles and certain other vehicles are also exempt ie. drain cleaning. recovery vehicles.

Move to a crime-free area! Up here it is not unusual for people to pop out of the pub and start their cars before returning to drink their last pint. Sup up, belch...and the car is good to go! (I believe)
