Hi all. does anybody know how to fit the proper folding step to the drivers side of a 90. It's had one there in the past but the step has ben removed and I cant' see how to get the bolt through without having to drop the tank. Also any suggestions for the crossmember step broken off and the holes are knackerd.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks:eek:

I know the supporting leg goes to the chassis, and on mine the bolt os a long bolt that goes right through the chassis rail and holds the gearbox mount also. As for the bolts above they are a real pain to get to, i think you would probably have to take the tank off.

As for the rear one, you can buy rear steps that are fixed, like a big step which I think bolts in different places, there are several different designed. Failing that, drill the holes out and put long bolts right the the chassis.

you will find that the two brackets either side of the step, bolt up into the floor, by the sill.
the third connection is made with the cross brace between the step and the chasis, which connects to a bolt on the chasis leg.(beyond the tank)
hope this helps

Hi

I fitted a folding step only this weekend to a New defender! It was quite an easy process apart from drilling a hole in to the box section under the Landy and fitting a rivet nut to fix the supporting bar to.

On the landy fitting instructions it says to use a Rivet nut gun to do this. After buying said item, I found out that I did not need too as a grease monkey at LR told me to use a metal plate, nut and bolt to fix the rivet nut.

Hole drilled 9.5mm
Insert a spare long bolt into the Rivet nut with a plate and nut on the bolt and tighten making the rivet nut crush from inside the box section.
Remove long bolt, metal plate and nut and fit the brace with proper bolt!

A bit fiddley but worked!

Anyone wanna buy a rivet nut gun???? Lol

Hope this helps:)

thanks, for the advice that will teach me to look before buying things in first.
Suppose the tank will have to come out is it easy to do or a real pig?

can anyone recommend a drill bit that'l drill right through the rail, needs to be long enough to drill from passengers side. my drill bits cant handle the STRENGTH of the landy!

big long cobalt drill bit is best one to use for drillin heavy metal use them on stainless just be fekin careful that you dont lock up with the drill an take the end off the bit there expensive and an arse to get out if it does break!!
