Morning all

What would cause my keys having to be reprogramed by Land Rover

I had car in the crash repair centre went to pick up after they fixed the

car back end. New window upper tailgate lower tail gate and bumper and

driver side light at the back.

I went to collect and none of the keys worked key fobs batteries were fine.

Just no remote access central locking alarm immobilizer .

Had to use manual key and of course the alarm kept going off. So

The Crash Repair Centre set the car to Land Rover and they reprogrammed.

What could have happened as it was perfect when I gave them the car.

And now the ant me to pay

Ta

They didn't reprogram the keys they re synced the car to the keys. Possibly because battery had been disconnected for an extended period or disconnected incorrectly. The repairer should return the car to you in working condition it is down to them to pay for re sync.

Gotcha

So they sync the car back to the keys.

They only have one set at min so will need to go back with my key.

well both probably if the car gets resync'd.

Just that they tried to say it was my keys.

Yes like two keys go faulty at the same time .. did contemplate doing the lotto lol.

so they must have disconnected the battery incorrectly as there is a very specific way to do so if I remember correctly that I read.

Last time they did that my dvd built in screens didn't work and my cd player would not load any cd's

just hope that has not happened again grrrrrrr

I did arrive to pick car up after body work repair when I identified the problem with the syncing up. AND the car started fine with plenty of battey so at least it was not flat.

disconnecting the battery incorrectly I have been told can spike all sort of little problems

Rich

And thanks for the advice as they say

PRE WARNED IS PRE ARMED

Cheers

The way the L322 system works is a little different to the P38...

the L322 uses an EWS unit (stands for something in German) and in this unit is a set of codes for ALL the possible keys LR think you'll ever need...so when you order a new one, it should work straight away as the car is already aware of the key codes that have been allocated for it...like a MAC address or IP address...totally unique.

It is not possible for the key and car to lose sync with regards to the EWS unit...but you do need to re-initialise a key to the vehicle and this is done thusly...

Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks
the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets
supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their
respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or
additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the
procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.
Initialisation Procedure
1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.
2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position
0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds
of turning the ignition switch to position 0.
3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.
4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock
button three times within 10 seconds.
5 Release both buttons.
6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat
step 4.
7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again.

If you had to have a totally and utterly new key LR never thought you would need...you need to remove the EWS unit from under the centre console, plug this into a box of tricks that will read the code database stored within, pick a spare/unused code and the write this information the new key...replace the EWS unit and the key will work as though it were old friends!

Pretty sure dealers can program keys from just the diagnostic port Saint
No need to remove the ECU

Even the fault mate has key programming features ;)
