Probably a daft one but I know you guys will give me an answer.....I want to replace my Viscous fan for a Kenlowe electric fan as I know its a good fuel saver, but what are the two electric fans for sitting behind the grill? Whats the best thing to do in this situation?? Also looking at getting a bigger intercooler and would love to know the biggest I can go too without too much messing......if anyone knows of a car too take from that is a straight swap then please tell :)

Thanks in advance.

two front fans are for the aircon.

Jeremy fearne does a very expensive intercooler for discos you could google em and get the dimensions then head down the scrappy to see what comes close size wise.

Just take the viscous fan off and don't spend anything, will work ok without one.
Interesting thing is if you take the viscous fan off and fit a kenlowe your intercooler is less efficient when the fan is not running, even a bigger intercooler.
If you want a bit of performance , leave the viscous fan and fit a bigger inter-cooler.

So if I fit an allisport Intercooler replacement (Mine is aircon so cant get bigger apparently) I wont benefit by also fitting a Kenlowe/Mondeo electric fan?

If you remove the fan you reduce the airflow thro the intercooler and therefore reduce the heat transfer. ie the air going into the engine isn't as cool as it would have been with the fan running.
I have known people fit motor cycle radiator fans running all the time in conjunction with kenlowes or removing the viscous fan to supplement the air flow thro the standard inter-cooler.
Tbh you would get more performance out of a 300tdi if you removed the EGR system, removed the catalytic convertor and removed the mid box silencer.
If you fit a bigger intercooler there won't be much improvement in performance if you don't also tweek the ignition pump.
300tdi's aren't made to be quick off the mark.:)
But they still get there, eventually.

It's not performance I am after, just wanting to get the best mpg possible, already de catted and blanked egr, might remove fully, also added K&N Filter along with injector cleaner and all new filters. Just heard that electric fan saves more as does intercooler but dont want to defeat the object by getting both. After all advice is apprciated and will take what you guys say as you will no doubt have more knowledge.

Seriously, just take the fan off, leave it in the boot in case you get caught in traffic on a blisteringly hot day (I wish !!!!) and you'll be fine.

I've run 6 Disco diesels now all without fans and never had a moments problem with any of them. You'll need a 32mm cranked fan spanner for taking off & on, leave that in the boot as well.

My Disco's have their fans in the boot and I have NEVER felt the need to reinstall them - even when towing.

Yup I'll second that, I dont even carry the bloody ugly thing around anymore, in fact, where the hell is it?
on a serious note I've towed all sorts in all sorts of weather on and off road and the tempreture has never risen above normal, what I will say though is make sure the rest of the system is in good fettle, right quantity and grade of antifreeze, water pumps good and so on
