300tdi no fan?

The frame sits flush with the back edge of the front X-member, as yours does in the picture.

Yes and no on the power sapping bit, they make a turbine sound when you first drive off with a cold engine, but within a few hundred yards that noise will be gone as the fan hub oil sorts itself out.
You can notice a difference, but it really is miniscule.

I have cooked my 200 off road in winter with snow on the ground, so do not ignore what could cost you, all because I have no viscous and forgot to switch the elec fan on!
Later engines are not so forgiving.

will do when i get chance, i need to have a look at the bonnet catch so that'll be a good excuse.

I always found the viscous fans work pretty well.

And don't put any additional load on the electrical system, which is a weak spot anyway, and doesn't get any better with a couple of decades of wear, damp and vibration.

I have used the same electric fan on my Ninety for thirty years. Has it's own supply line and is switched by thermostat/relay. Can be switched on direct but have never needed to. Was a double fan when 19j but only single needed for 200tdi
