Is vacum pump for brakes on alternator

I think my brake problem is due to a weak brake servo vacum pump.
Can you confirm this is integeral with the alternator
 
I didnt think Petrols had a vacuum pump, so lets assume its a diesel. The vacuum pump is on the left side of the engine, just below the fuel filter (on a 300 tdi) Its sort of circular shaped with a pipe comin out leading to the brake servo
