Hi All,

SOS time again please, the Wife is waiting to be recovered... again.

She is doing some miles across to Manchester from Sheffield on a weekly basis and has said (didn’t tell me until now) that when on the motorway, she loses all power, the engine revs like mad, then when the revs fall the drive is back again.

When leaving Manchester tonight, she has said it did it a few times, now the temp gauge is red lining, hence the recovery call.

Are there potentially 2 issues here? Is there a possible HG fault, and a gearbox fault? TD5 auto.

The cabin heating isn’t great, but put it down to being a 20 year old disco, but again, she has said this has gotten worse.

I hope to know more when it gets back, she is at a Service Station and has said there aren’t any leaks. When running back ‘normal’, the temp gauge goes back to normal.

Any ideas?

they do run badly when short on coolant as temp sensor cant read correctly unless systems full, could be leak or head gasket

Thanks jamesmartin, could the loss of power and over revving be related to this?

I’m very new to D2, and don’t fully understand how all the ECU’s behave yet.

Billy,

I would be inclined to check the oil level in the gearbox first if you are actually losing drive, as that would tend to suggest a gearbox or torque converter problem IMO. Has it ever had the gearbox oil and filter changed?

Hi Tony,

Not by me, yet...

Hi All,

General update.

Thanks for all the help so far, across all my SOS posts!

So, original fault was overheating, intermittent loss of power and no cabin heating.

As the guys suggested, the coolant was quite low, so have topped it up and bled it. I had it ticking over for a few hours while getting the coolant up to temp and bleeding it. I can't see any leaks, so not sure where the coolant has gone... The heating in the cab works a treat. I have put a tray under it tonight to see if there are any leaks when I check the level tomorrow.

Engine oil not contaminated, so almost sure I don't have a HG fault...

I the gearbox and transfer box levels, gear box ok, not enough in the T Box, will sort this. I am also going to do the filter in the gearbox as a matter of course.

Lots of other D2 questions now I am crawling all over it. I'll make new threads for these though!

Hopefully this is sorted, but I wish i knew where the coolant has gone, but I don't think I have checked the level since I got it, 6 months ago :(
