Interior Cabin Lights - LED?

Nice!

Clarkson's version wasn't quite so well finished... ;)

When I watched that, my heart sank a little.
I'm not entirely sure what their mechanic was thinking, but I wished they didn't.

(PS: I had to postpone the MOT today, only because I had to work on my Mrs car which failed)

so where is the A 2 Z on how to do it then:rolleyes:
was it
easy /hard/expensive/cheap
or all of the above:confused:

Cheap and easy. I repurposed some domestic G4 12 Volt AC/DC LED bulbs. I just soldered them into the interior light unit.
I've done the same with the number plate light.
The AC/DC LEDs are very stable with the variable voltages that cars electrical system puts out. Much more stable than simple resistance dropped LEDs.

Thanks -- will have a search on flea bay for some and give it a go

They didn't do it properly for televisual impact: it's following the old Top Gear Mantra of "Ambitious but rubbish!" It wouldn't have taken much effort to bolt the body shell onto the D2 chassis properly. ;) But watching it fall apart around Clarkson was semi-amusing (if a little staged).

What was a bit sad was that neither donor car looked to be in bad condition. Which is a tad galling if you have a passion for both MGs and Land Rovers... But starting out with rotted out versions of both is absolutely fair game, and I really like what you've achieved with yours! :D

Any pictures of how you did it Nodge? I've been thinking about LEDs for mine too... :) I guess one of these bulbs per holder? I guess the flat panel LED panel with the festoon bulb adapter would be a fair bit easier for the over-head lamp. :)

I might have a picture of my current setup somewhere.
I used the flat panel (COB) LED in my D3 light. I was going to use a COB in my FL1 too, but couldn't find my spares. So I used what I had laying about.
I soldered two G4 LEDs into the front light and one onto the rear.
The COB kits are a direct replacement. Some insulation is needed to prevent short circuits. I made up a mount for my D3 lights as extra security and improved finish.
