Its probably all been said before but my premium last year was just over £300 this year £510, BLOODY RIDICULOUS, I have had one claim this year because some scrotes tried to break in and damaged two lock barrels and smashed the small glass in the back doors, I have protected bonus so it should not affect the premium, these insurance company's are taking the ****, this is with the NFU I first insured with them in 2009 and it was £250 so its doubled since then. My car is a Mreg ES TDI and I am 56 with a unblemished record not a young tearaway. So lads and lasses what are your experiences are and are there any company's out there specialise in reasonable cover.

Renewal premiums always increase nowdays on the previous years.
I keep away from brokers and search on the internet for a premium that suits me direct with an insurance company and so that will be below £200, full comp protected ... Simples :).

I have been with LloydsTSB for years and years. Renewal 14th March and this year they wanted £283.97 (increase of over £50)
Went on “Go Compare” and found Chaucer Direct for £153.40 fully comp, protected NCB, courtesy car and 60 day EU cover, £250 excess :)
Funny thing about this is, I had a discount for ADDING a second driver (spouse). I think they make the rules up as they go along

I was with the NFU til this month when my renewal also went up from £400 to £620. Went to Frank Pickles and got it to £145 - like for like! Shop about is my advice... You'd think they all use the same underwriters (as they are only brokers really...) but they don't - apparently.

It does pay to chop and change companies to keep the premium down. It annoys the hell out of me when you ring up to cancel, that they turn around and say "Oh we can beat that price if you stay with us" So it shows they are just trying to rip you off

My 21 year old son added my wife to his policy and that saved him a couple of hundred of his £1800 premium, dont know how they figure that one out

Sure glad my Disco is only just over £300 that includes lost keys, legal cover etc :D

I am also going with Chaucer direct. They were the only one's I could find who would accept my full no claims bonus from a commercial policy. Also adding the spouse on saved £160 ( it must be a spouse not just a named driver).............still £600 and I am 47, and got all the qualifications know to mankind.
I declared modifications of a tow bar, bull bar and driving lamps for an extra £30. If you call the driving lamps spot lamps it would have been £60:eek:.
The protected no claims is a con too. It will allow 2 claims in 5 years, but what they don't tell you is that when you declare an accident the loading is so high that it wipes out the protected bonus. If the claim is up to about £600 you may as well just put your hand in your pocket. Save the claim for the write off or the fatal accident:(
I would love to speak to the person who actually comes up with the rules or writes the computer program. It defies logic.

I changed from NFU to Frank Pickles (backed by LV) and saw my premiums cut by 75%

My 300 Tdi is through a company called Performance Direct and is an LV policy. I'm 42 in a very rural area with full no claims protected and paying £230.

My 200Tdi which is fully modded with winch, snorkel etc is through Frank Pickles on a limited miles policy for £83.50. This is also an LV policy!

Isn't that what the insurance adverts say in the back or the LR magazines "we give a discount so insure your Land Rover with us" :D

Yes it is, they also say that they are SPECIALIST LR insurers:blabla:

What a boad of lollocks!

I had the flux lot telling me that as mine is an import it costs more to insure! Its a RE import I said! I then asked him where the Discovery is built? He said that mine must have been built in Japan as it had been imported to the UK!! He would not believe that it was built at Solihull!

I had the same issue with several of the so called specialist insurers!

my insurance went from 500 for my mondeo to 1500 no accidents bought the discovery 300tdi got it for 320 fully comp on with footman James strange thing is they were the ones who wanted 1500 on the renewal, :)
