Hi guys

Ive had an issue recently with my insurance and I was wonderin how modifications appear on the insurance docs. I've phoned the NFU who i'm using and they tell me that modifications are only documented on their computers and that they do not list them on the policy documentation itself. I'm kinda wary about this, although if I have this information from them in writing accompanied with the policy should this be ok? I've never insured a modified vehicle before so i'm not sure how it should appear, and I dont want to be pulled for driving an 'uninsured' 90.

Cheers

Ollie :)

Best thing to do is ring them up and ask them to confirm what you have listed. That way, you can be sure. (assuming they can't give you it in writing)

Only other thing I could suggest is to insure it with a proper 4x4 insurance company/broker as they tend to cater for 4x4s better and include cover for off roading etc.

4x4 Insurance & Off Road Insurance from Adrian Flux

If you ask em for it in writing they will consult the underwriter and then get back to you. I had this with NFU last year. Unfortunately they left it too late getting back to me and I'd already signed with Adrian Flux by then.

with frank pickles policy from highways and my mods are listed on the policy
got the link from here and got a bloody good price fully comp with pay and play cover
and green lanes + recovery if i get stuck

+ recovery if i get stuck

How does that work? When I got my gaylander stuck in a ditch, I rang every recovery company within a 20 mile radius and they were all like "are u orf road?" and when i said yes, they were like "soz can't help ya"

Well they don't know that. Initially I called the AA and the bloke actually turned up in a patrol van believe it or not even though I made it perfectly clear that it was an unsurfaced road with ruts. So after that I just said that we were off road just to avoid a repeat.

In the end I found someone with a nice 08 plate defender 130 (box conversion) It literally dragged my gaylander out of the ditch as if it were just a coke can. Still puts a smile on my face to this day

For ALL (as far as I am aware) the breakdown organisations, Even though it's technically a public highway it's up to the driver to pay the specialist charges to get the vehicle extracted if a standard road going vehicle cannot get to you. Once the vehicle is at a place where a road going truck can get to it no other charges should be applied unless further specialist equipment is needed to load/unload the vehicle.

I personally work on the system whereby if yer mate could come along with a transit van and a rope and pull you out then I won't charge eg when Oddie photoshopped that image of my landy in the ditch.;):D

In the case of a vehicle stuck on ice/snow on a tarmac road, because the vehicle is on tarmac which would be normally accessable to an everyday truck no charge is levied directly to the driver unless a long period of time is needed to extract the vehicle (2 hour limit before charging I think it is in most cases).

In the case of a vehicle having lost keys and being parked in such a manor as to be unable to be loaded by a normal truck, it is in MANY (but not all) cases down to the driver to pay specialist charges to enable the vehicle to be either/and/or moved to a position where it can be loaded by a standard truck or to pay for additional equipment to enable the vehicle to be loaded onto a standard truck (wheel skates, hi-ab, slippery jims, extra man power, winching charges, dolly wheels, 4x4, etc)

If I think I can get my truck up a bridle path, along a disused railway line, across a field, up a green lane, along a 4x4 track (no I'm not kidding) etc to extract a broken down, burnt out or accident damaged vehicle I will do so. The same goes for driving through flood water, on beaches, along cliff paths etc etc.

I have plenty of pics of my trucks doing jobs in stoopid alledgedly inaccessable places.:D:D:D
