I am a 32 year old full ncb no accidents no points live in a nice (ish) lol area and my first insurance renewal as just landed on the door mat. 2000 td5 disco and they want 816 for the year. Surely they are just taking the Michael or are these cars that expensive to insure. Is this a 'lets try it on see if he pays quote' Any tips on who to try for a quote.

Renewal quotes are rarely good value for money because many people will simply renew their insurance with their existing company just so that they don't have to go through the hassle of going with a different insurance company. Because of this, people are willing to pay the extra and insurance companies are all too aware of it.

I suggest giving Adrian Flux a call. They're usually quite good and can provide special cover for off roading.

Have also used Adrian Flux found them very good, also Sureterm, both do 4x4 policies and green laning with limited mileage if required

Is the quote I have been given wide of the mark or as insurance really gone up this much. I was expecting half that tbh.

I am 24 and paid £500 to insure my disco. But I also have off road cover and the entitlement to drive any car, third party. I could have got it down to £350 if I was willing to sacrifice those two things.

Renewal on mine (same age car etc)going through the comparison sites is around £370.00
I'm 48 and I live in a fairly low risk area. Offstreet parking every night.
Interesting looking at the list of quotes you get on the comparison sites, the prices for me range all the way up to £1100.

A subject of interest to all of us. I check others every year; after realising some time ago that loyalty is a foreign concept to insurers. This year a huge increase from SAGA, £650, reduced to £450 from Octagon (wife and I with 6points and a recorded theft loss claim; fully comp with bonus protection). The best In the past was NFL but that was when we lived in a 'nice' area, they won't even quote for our current locale; they are honest about their business strategy 'nice places no scum'
Other things: thoroughly check the paperwork (a friend of mine may be facing a total loss of £4k after his scooter was vandalised on his drive and discovered he was not covered for commuting, though he swears he put this in on the Internet quote)
Protected bonus? How does that work when the insurer can set any premium before applying a bonus reduction. It all makes you mad!

Just ran a confused.com and admiral are cheapest at present. 480 with a 1000 pound excess and 520 with a 200 excess the 520 is a no brainer. Still going to try flux and direct line. I have also been told LV is cheap.

I found Adrian Flux expencsive and wanted nearly a £100.00 extra to pay monthly !! Got a grea deal in the end with Admiral although I had to agree to a 3 car deal still cost less in the long run.

Got mine insured under the wifes name. We live in Brum so gonna get stung. Last year quotes went up from 450 to 750. Spoke to Adrian Flux and they said that all 4x4 insurance had increased and it would be going up again in 2011.

This years renewal quote came through at 1150. She got it down to 800. Thats for a 34 yr old woman with max no claims and no points.

That's a mad price. I paid 520 in the end via admiral. 32 year old male full nbc fully comp with legal cover and protected ncb. A guy at work insures his Mazda 3 mps for same price and it's loads of groups higher so maybe there is something in the insurance going up for 4x4s.

Seriously guys im paying 250 pound for me & my mate, fully comp
I have no no claims what so ever & covered for green laning & 4x4 events !
He has no no claims either but im 37 & he,s 40 !
Phone for a quote u may be as shocked as i was :)
