*ahem*

Well, now, there, then.........

I don't even know how to begin.

Erm........ well...... you see out here, we don't get UK sized batteries. Well we COULD but they'd cost around 5x what you'd pay for them in the UK by the time they've been imported and taxed and delivered and everything..... so a 664 battery as specified in RAVE for the P38 COULD be had for around £500 after maybe 3 months from the date of the order and I don't want it that badly.

What we USUALLY do, is find the nearest equivalent JIS battery size and plonk that in. That's the NX120-7.

HOWEVER, as I have JUST found out after 15 years of owning the Great British Beast, that not all NX120-7 batteries are created equal and I had fitted one with 70Ah capcity and 600CCA, which is WOEFULLY inadequate for the P38. RAVE calls for a 107Ah 664 battery and most 664 size batteries with 107Ah capacity have a CCA rating of at least 750A. So I've replaced my battery with another NX120-7 with one of 95Ah (still a little under specced but a darned sight better than the previous 70Ah) and 750CCA.

Car's fine now.

But BOY do I feel sheepish.

You live and learn, MF31 is the go to battery 120ah 1000cca but i dont know how plentifull they are out were you are.
Hmmmm... a little over £300 here, but that's before tax. https://www.desertcart.com.my/produ...330-x-174-x-242-mm-4-year-warranty-mf-31-1000

I'd kind of settled on the Deka 1131PMF which can be had for "only" £200 here before finding the battery I actually bought. We'll see how it goes. The 95Ah/750CCA NX120-7 I have in there now was £72 so I reckon if I can burn my way through them at a rate of 2.75 NX120-7s per Deka 1131PMF and still be ahead.

Just out of curiosity, how long do you guys get out of your 664 batteries on your DSEs before they need replacing? The best I ever got out of one of these JIS sized substitutes was about 14 months.

My last mf31-1000 lasted 7 yrs on the DSE before it went on the 4.6 .

In cant get an mf31-1000 for mine, there are none available... Funking brexit crap..... My last battery has lasted 5yrs but struggled at touch at -5 recently. That's an 85a 750ah. The last owner was a scrimper and I'll drain every last volt out of it. I did find a part dry cell and topped it up with deionized water.... So far.....

I got about 3 years out of mine but it was abused. Jumping cars, welding, finding voltage drains, incorrect VR etc done all sorts - without a ctek to maintain it. I've charged it up a few times but standing in lockdown drained it right down and won’t hold its charge now. It’s the severe cold here that tends to shorten its life

And the damp. Wales is good at damp!

Heh... well cold and damp and all, you guys are getting a LOT better life out of your batteries than I am on mine.... and I seem to remember a really expensive fancy dry cell Optima battery from a while back. Didn't even make it 18 months.

I'll try that Deka lorry battery when the one I just installed coughs it and see how it goes.

My suspicion would be a dodgy earth on yours or set point too low for the batteries you are using. Try a more traditional one. It won't have yhe cold cranking amps but less of an issue on the petrol. RF receiver is the other main drain issue.

Thanks... I'll check those out but I also have a possible electrical leak in the EAS driver pack which probably won't help matters. I think of all the names I've called that car, "HMS Unfixable" is probably the most appropriate.

:D
