Morning All,

My headlights in my opinion are pretty dull (just generally, there's nothing wrong with the "silver" inside etc). The plastic they're made from is also getting a bit tired - the white clips which are screwed into the back have started pulling away without unscrewing them.

Is there a replacement headlight which is better, or better bulbs etc? We live in the middle of no-where and being able to light up the road is pretty handy!

Cheers,

Joe

spots help what landy have you got that may help to get other answers lol

2000 TD5 Discovery ... according to the magic ball that is a user profile:rolleyes:

Dunno much about TD5's but Halfrauds do brighter bulbs, expensive mind, but a bit cheaper than fitting spot's.

TD5 headlights didnt seem too bad when I tried one, trying a new set of bulbs is probably where I would start too. If you do replace them I would take Dewins advice and go for the brighter bulbs

Try H4 xenon gas bulbs, they'll improve things. Buy them off Ebay for peanuts.

The sarcasm was perhaps a little unwarranted and also if you are asking someone for help and guidance, don't you feel it is YOUR responsibility to give the fullest info - without your helpers having to search for it??

Xenon bulbs are indeed brighter. Im missing my 6000K Xenon kit from my old car.

When buying brighter bulbs, avoid anything called Xenon that doesnt come with a 23000V ballast, it isnt really a xenon bulb, its a xenon lookalikey that has the glass stained slightly blue. They are a waste of your money.

If you have projector headlamps you can 'get away with' fitting a real xenon kit. The law states you should have auto levelling headlights, and a headlight washer system to stop you dazzling oncomers.

They can be had for around the £40 mark from flea bay.

Avoid £20 odd per bulb from halfrauds

You are indeed correct and hopefully the OP will improve the info given when posting a request for advice, but this wouldn't be LZ without the odd sarky reply;)

All the 50% plus brighter bulbs are the standard Halogen bulbs but with the addition of a small amount of Xenon gas so giving a brighter whiter light, not all are blue and they are a worth while upgrade.
Some of the Japanese bulbs are dimmer than your existing fitment so beware if you are buying from a supplier on Ebay read the reviews/feedback first.

As for Halfords if you wish to go there lookout for their BOGOF promo on these bulbs.

yeah, i bought some "xenon" bulbs before and they were great, my dad got some and it made the lights duller than before! make sure you get the right ones.

Hi all - thanks for the info. I know squat about bulbs so it's all helpful.

The car is indeed a 2000 Td5 - I thought I'd added that in but obviously not. I'm used to a traction engine forum where everyone knows what engine you've got so there's no need to write it down!

I'll have a lookout for these bulbs then.

Thanks for the advice. I don't know what a projector headlamp is to be honest. I do know that it sprays water on the headlights every now and again.

I recently changed the bulbs on my d2 with a bogof from halfords , think I paid £15 for 2 bullbs they are much brighter but have a narrower beam , I tend to use the front fogs as well to fill the wider shadows. Not sure what plod would say if I was stopped. not sure on legality of using foglights when not foggy

its ilegal. The rules stating use of fog lights are a bit silly, the distance of visibility when you legally can switch em on is so short your more likely to pull over and give up on ya journey!
