Ello there again :)

Ok ive finally gone legal after 16 odd years driving, passed the practical a couple days ago..

The problem I have now is getting insured for less than 1500 quid a year!!

anyone know any exceptionally cheap companies? obviously because of the high premiums im only going third party..

Im 32

Its a td5 GS on a T-plate (1999) T863 VEU

Ive checked comparethemarket and also gocompare, cheapest on gocompare is 1500 quid cheapest on meerkat is 2500 quid?

The only way i get it cheaper is being a second driver on someone elses insurance with lots of no claims, then its about 35 a month.. For obvious reasons i dont want to continue doing it this way

You must suck at driving if its taken 16 years to pass :D

Problem is you have no experience so are as big a risk as a 17 year old and the first thing you want to drive weighs 2 tons and can do a fooking lot of damage if in the wrong hands :(

I would say 1500 was a good price :)

(Hey! lol I passed no faults :p ) hehe i just never bothered to get the full, got 16 years experience, driven all over the world, south america, south africa, all over europe.. but yeah your right as far as there concerned I have none.. :( sniffle sniffle... if i end up paying 130 pounds a month, ill prolly have to give up smokin :(

Earlier this year I was phoning around for quotes on a £500 hack - I thought I'd go 3rd party as it was worth practically nothing, however, 9 times out of 10 it was considerably cheaper to go fully comp. No idea how that works:doh:

I was getting quotes of around £500 fully comp. I thought I would get a couple more quotes before taking it. I got a quote for £1200 laughed at that and got a quote from Lancaster at £169!!!! fully comp.
Mind you my mate tried them a couple of days later and he was quoted £1800.
You really have to shop around.

what ever you do dont get insurance from (ecarinsurance) wat a load off swindlers..
keep trying like mikey said sometimes its best to go fully comp.
maybe you have to do wat my missis do and just get on sum 1 elses insur for a couple o years just to bump up yr driving experience, every year u bin driving it comes down..

I would say £1500 sounds about right for someone who has only just (officially) started driving. Call Lancaster, they seem to be competitive for Land Rovers/4x4s - I insure my 300 Tdi with them for £150 a year.

It seems daft but makes perfect sense. I want to insure my vehicle with comprehensive insurance, even an agreed value if they offer it, it's a good LR and is kept in good running order, by insuring it fully the insurance company know that I care about this car – I will probably also drive it accordingly.

If I bought a £400 banger to run into the ground or until the MOT was up etc I probably wouldn’t really care about it much, so I might insure it 3rd party, however this also demonstrates to the insurance company that I might be tempted to drive with less care for my vehicle and therefore makes me a bigger risk, so it's actually a more expensive way often.

On a provisional licence

In the seventies/eighties I used to do the middle east run through Europe to Doha (this was with an artic). Most European countries are **** hot when it comes to having the correct documentation, how the hell did you get away with a Provisional licence in Europe, how did you get insurance for that?

The reason I ask is that if you've had motor insurance within Europe (and can prove it), this should help with your premium. Provisional or full licence, you can still accumulate a no claims bonus that will lower your premium.

Nigel.

NFU seem particularly well priced and I have found if you insure your home with them as well the car premium is even better value.

was with swinton but last year they double the policy so went with a sister company highway.Y esterday had a phone call about renewal sorry sir your policy has gone up by £25 a month but i can offer you £250 pound cash back!!!10 month policy told the guy not interested he hummed and arrd!! i tell you wat forget cash back i give you £120 pound discount i said "oh" to get the reply wat a minute tell you wat i do my best and give you a £240 discount meaning your policy has only gone up by £1 a month! All this without me even getting a chance to say a word???????

When you say you've been driving on a provisional for 16 years do you mean with a full license holder in the car with you at all times?
