Hi all, I’m not impressed with my Insurance Co, I’ve now reached the age of 80 and my insurance has gone up from £360 to over £900 pounds. No claims have been made, drove 1500 miles last year and will do about the same this year. My Landy is 1993 standard Defender cab in very good condition. Time Insurance company’s were brought to task over this type type of day light robbery! By the way I’ve never made a claim in my life.

Indeed they are all doing it and it's not just for the older generation.
Sadly the insurance see older drivers the same as younger drivers.
My son Ninety insurance was £2.5k when he passed his test, this seemed cheap compared to a 1.8 x-reg Focus (mine) at £11k.

My FIL had the same issue, now 87 it has gone up year on year, he also does very few miles.

Don’t feel too singled out, my 2005 Range Rover insurance went up from £600 to £800 and I’m 62 with no claims or convictions. They’ll probably blame it on the increased cost of heating the skyscrapers they occupy on Canary Wharf.
Tricky

Just insured my 1994 ex-MoD 110 Defender - I'm 77. Managed to get a classic car cover but means doesn't accrue protected NCD. Also has limited mileage of 5000/yr which suits me fine. Came in at £465 + legal cover and recovery - pushing it to £511. Best I could find. Contacted a number of insurers advertising in LRM. Got various quotes from 'not interested' to £1700. One of the insurers told me that it was too young for a classic car cover.
My 2001 '90' is on a SORN for a big refurb (new galv chassis etc) so initially looked at transferring insurance onto the 110. Insurance went from a quote of £570 for the '90' to £3170 for the 110. At first they even said that the 110 didn't exist - then said if it had a van body (which it has) - it couldn't be older than 2006 build. Then I pointed out they were already insuring my 90 with a van body and that is a 2001 reg. So I went elsewhere.

Well obviously they have no idea, hate to be in an accident with them as my insurance company.

im with Lancaster classics car im 48 i have a land rover 90 F reg 2.5 TD
limited mileage 1500 or so fully comp £92 this year was £80 last year

I've got 2 vintage buses, a 1952 AEC Regal IV half-decker and a1954 Guy single decker, fully comp on both is about £500 a year. Both are certified for PSV use, MoT exempt etc, can't use them for hire and reward but can use them fully loaded for free services in connection with vehicle rallies and running days. Any driver with PSV licence; or not more than 8 passengers on grandfather rights..

The insurance on my 2022 Defender went up from £300 in 2023 to £700 in 2024.

No reason, had no accidents or claims, l am just over 60 years old.

You really do need to shop around for insurance. when I was "shopping" 2 months ago I put in some dummy quotes using my partner's name. It worked out some 40% cheaper for the same level of cover. Tempted though I was, I don't want to get caught "fronting".

My partner is still in her early 'seventies & is the registered keeper/main user of our daily, with myself listed as the named driver.
Conversely my RRC is on a classic policy in my name with her as the named driver.

I turn 80 next month & thinking of trying for classic cover on the 26 year old daily, but previous brokers have stated that such cover is not available for a car that is used on a regular basis.

I think next years renewals are going to be a scary financial burden.

About 100 miles a week, that's not a lot really especially if you live in a rural area. I do that in 2 days going to and from work.

We are both retired & reside in a rural area.
'Ere indoors indoors used the car most as she is involved with the local community.

I'd go back to the historic insurer and tell them the car is doing under 100 miles a week, the average historic car would probably do 5000 a year going to rallies.

Thanks for that suggestion, I'll bear it in mind when the sh.. hits the fan next Spring.
